MrPoobah Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Hello folks, been lurking on this forum for a while but finally decided to join and pipe in. I'm saving up for a new guitar, namely a LP. I used to have a Trad Plus that was great but unfortunately had to sell when I lost my job last year. Now that things are looking up Im looking to get closer to my dream guitar which is a '59, how original I know . My current guitar is a Godin Core HB which is GREAT but not my dream. Thinking hard about it I cant really afford 4k plus on a new guitar and the less expensive Gibsons give me pause, especially given the inconsistencies in Gibson's QC. Not to mention the barbie plastic binding and baked maple nonsense. I have been to stores near and far and with the exception of Dave's guitar and Guitar Rez here in town I have not played more than a handful of Gibsons I would seriously consider buying, same goes for Fender. This is where Heritage comes in. I love the history and pedigree of the brand, I love the looks of the guitars but what has really pushed me over the edge has been you, the great community that this brand has fostered is really great and when paired with the quality of the instruments it has become a no brainer. I play blues, Mike Bloomfield is my hero and about as modern sounding as I go. What do you think would get me close to those tones in the Heritage stable. I would also like to find a finish that is close to the one on his 59, should I go used or new? Please, treat this thread as your own personal soapbox and go nuts! The more info, opinions and best of all pictures/clips the better! Thanks in advance.
smurph1 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 First Hello and Welcome to the HOC!! There is a band down here in West Virginia called Poobah..You aren't related are you? LOL First off Heritage guitars are handmade, the way G-brand guitars were made in their heyday..Also with a Gibson you are paying a premium to have that name on the headstock.. As far as spending 4k on a Les Paul Type guitar, you could probably get a H-150 or H-157 of your dreams and still hang onto a chunk of that money..Just my observation..I'm sure others will chime in too..Good luck in your search!!
bolero Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 good choice! I had a bunch of Gibsons but have been free of the kool-aid for a while the quality of Heritage guitars blows me away, I've switched to them because they are as good or better than custom shop Gibson's...and the price is more reasonable too. G's are way overpriced IMO I would look for a H150 similar finish to Bloomfield's if that's what you like...but looking used could take a while, and if you're picky about neck profile you may not get what you want? you could custom order a new one, with the finish & neck you want.... happy hunting!
chico Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 follow up to Bolero: ..and then, after finding the perfect H150CM, say in VSB or ALSB, equipped usually w/the SD59s, you will want to find the perfect H535. can't have one and not another. but, first things first. being from Austin, you should be able to find one used somewhere to play, and watch the boards here. Then, go buy a new one, keep the Heritage going.. best wishes and welcome. BTW, my last dog was a Pit. best dog I ever had. male, had him his entire life 8wks to 14yrs old.. brindle. stout. wonderful dog.
High Flying Bird Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 An H-150 with some of the binding on the underside of the fretboard missing..... just like Bloomfield's. What a guitar player. I have the Super Sessions CD.
skydog52 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I've seen a lot of H-150s like this one. Welcome aboard!

Thank you! No, not related to the band. The name comes from "Thank You Mr. Poobah" a track by the Paul Butterfield Blues band. How much would a custom 150 be? follow up to Bolero: ..and then, after finding the perfect H150CM, say in VSB or ALSB, equipped usually w/the SD59s, you will want to find the perfect H535. can't have one and not another. but, first things first. being from Austin, you should be able to find one used somewhere to play, and watch the boards here. Ive been looking around town but havent found one yet but Im keeping my eyes open. Im leaning towards new unless the perfect used ones shows up. I've seen a lot of H-150s like this one. Welcome aboard! Wow, those are gorgeous! A bit darker than the Bloomfield burst but a man could be swayed into that finish any day. Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!
SouthpawGuy Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 My lefty 150 in VSB, Well it's almost a "non burst" burst if you know what I mean. Pickups are SD Pearly Gates. Weighs 8.2lbs and it's not chambered or hollow etc but solid wood. I play it mostly clean or with a little drive and it does that thing very nicely.

Did you ge the pearly gates standard or was that an aftermarket addition?
SouthpawGuy Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Thanks,I bought it used maybe two years ago, it's a 2003 guitar, and it had already been modded by the previous owner with Kluson tuners, the pickups and a jonesy blues Jimmy page wiring. The back is a lighter natural brown finish. .
MrPoobah Posted May 11, 2013 Author Posted May 11, 2013 Just beautiful, kind of reminiscent of the LP that was owned by Peter Green and later by Gary Moore. Got any sound clips??
Blunote Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Welcome to MrPoohba. I'm glad you're choosing Heritage & hope you stick around. I'm thinking that you might get some leads on a used one that has the tone you want through one of the Heritage dealers who maintain an inventory. The one dealer that springs to mind is Jay Wolfe. He could probably even provide clips and pictures of the ones he has, or help you spec out an order. After all, that's what he's there for. Give him a call. By the way, here's my H-150
brentrocks Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Welcome to the HOC! Some of the best playing H 150s I have owned have been beat to s**t, headstock repairs, etc....but I certainly would not throw out the possibility of buying a new H 150 or custom ordering you own H 150. Wait times are low, quality is high. Here are my 2 H 150s.... 2010 Alex Skolnick VSB with THROBAK pickups 2012 H 150 with HRW pickups
golferwave Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Welcome to the HOC and we're glad you're looking for a new Heritage! I would guess a brand new H-150 would be in the $2,250.00 to $2,500.00 area depending on the options you order.
AP515 Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Hi Mr. P You remind me of me. I was looking for an LP I could love and it became a pursuit of years. I tried lots in GC, I traded for a LP Classic and then traded it again. I just couldn't find one that I wanted to pay for. I found an H150 and stopped looking. As I think about it, I traded the Classic for a PRS McCarty and then traded the McCarty for the Heritage. So my Classic LP became my Heritage H150. I knew the Heritage story, but I didn't see the guitar as a Custom Shop level guitar until I played one. ...Eye Candy... Good luck.

A cycling friend of mine was attacked by a Pit Bull a few weeks ago while riding! But I guess it could have been any dog, even a Chihuhuawa!
Kuz Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Are any words necessary? Vintage Sunburst (VSB) finish....
bolero Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Are any words necessary? Vintage Sunburst (VSB) finish.... OH YEAH!!! perfect match of flame & grain -->all you need are some trenches gouged in the top, from changing the high E string
H Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Are any words necessary? Vintage Sunburst (VSB) finish.... I particularly like the collared dove sitting just above the toggle switch We have one or two nice ones over in Europe too
MrPoobah Posted May 11, 2013 Author Posted May 11, 2013 Man these guitars are works of art, Im seriously considering selling plasma to get to my budget sooner!
michaeljames Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 The HOC is a great place to hangout ~ friendly crowd and tons of info. Welcome aboard! Here is a pic of an '88 (1st year issued H150. Note the LP horn carve ~ Heritage had to discontinue the LP horn carve in '89 I believe? G gave them trouble over it.) Other is an '04 which left my home and moved to another HOCers. Both awesome! You'll find that many of our guitars came from other HOC owners. And I believe a great majority originated with/from BrentRocks. I hope one day I can custom order my 'perfect' H150 from the folks at Heritage ~ time will tell.
heritagefan7 Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I cannot echo enough your sentiments about the great people on the HOC. The guitars are absolutely superb. I've owned 3 and each has been the best I've ever played. Good luck finding exactly what you want and glad you are on the Forum!
Blunote Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Did you take this picture with a mirror? I thought your guitars would be left-handed. .
