Guest HRB853370 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 First of all, I have only played solidbody electrics since I began playing guitar in 1996. I could not believe my ears when I plugged this beauty in. I was expecting a rather dull tone. Even with the older than old strings, the tone is rich, beautiful, full and it sustains like I wouldn't have ever imagined! I launched into "Greengrass and Hightides" intro and it just sung. You all were absolutely correct when you said that Heritage knows how to make archtop guitars. Here are the photos. I haven't even taken a cloth to this yet. I talked with Bill at Heritage today, and he told me that the factory stringing is GHS 11-52. I found a set of GHS roundwound 11-50 in my stash, so I am going to give those a try. More to come.
Spectrum13 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Will, Happy you are lovin that 550! There may be a few more hollow body gitfiddles in your future.
FredZepp Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 That is an awesome Heritage... and it's great to hear your enthusiasm and appreciation for the guitar. Made in Kalamazoo means a lot when picking up a new instrument... they are the highest order of craftsmen. ( I bet if you tried you could post those pics larger... )
Guest HRB853370 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Made in USA comes first, made in Kalamazoo, Mi USA is even better, especially for this native Michiganian!

Congrats! 5 days and counting for me to pick up my 550 from Mark in K'zoo! Even though I have no money, I'm getting pumped!
Isaac Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Beautiful guitar man.. I'm a 550 man myself and it's just a wonderful guitar. Congrats

Guest HRB853370 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Tim, I cannot wait to see yours when you get it. And Isaac, can you post some pics of your 550? Thanks!
Gitfiddler Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Virtually everyone who has scored a 550 has praised them, myself included. Mine stays out on a stand most of the time and gets grabbed often. It is the most un-lam sounding laminate guitar I've ever played. Very close to a solid wood Golden Eagle in my opinion. Nice score, Will. Enjoy that big brown beauty.
High Flying Bird Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Nice score, Will. Enjoy that big brown beauty. A 550 is hard to beat. I have played a buddy's many times and love it to death.

Guest HRB853370 Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 OK, that one is a lefty I see, and the tailpiece has the "H" in it, where mine does not. Did they begin doing that H thing in the tailpiece with a certain year? Its a beauty!
unikh550 Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Have a H-550 with a Gibson ES-175CC pickup that I put on.I think that 550's are the best for straight ahead jazz!- Charles Bevell

Did they begin doing that H thing in the tailpiece with a certain year? Its a beauty! No,actually I requested the H tailpiece. They had the new tailpiece mounted on my H550 when I arrived to pickup my guitar. I asked Mel to replace the new tailpiece with the old H logo tailpiece. He said they had a few left and replaced mine. I like the H tp better. It just make a H550 complete to me.
