In Praise of Ed Roman

One thing that I would take issue with...

"...you would get a great guitar, but it probably would not get the attention from Heritage that this one got in a multiple piece order from Ed Roman when Heritage itself was much smaller and the material selections were better."

Anyone here think that sitting down with the Ren and Marv and mapping it out and being an HOC member wouldn't get you the "attention this one got"?

Of course that just means the we're a LUCKY BUNCH!

Hey, wrong thread!

The guy is internationally disliked. What did you think was going to happen

I thought this was going to be some kind of parody thread when it 1st appeared. Apparently Americans cant sue a parody, if I understood a comment made in another thread right. Chances are I didnt, but if I did, that would have to about the only thing it seems like they cant sue.

I certainly have no concern about litigation. I'm about as insulated as one can get.

Never met the guy and never had a transaction. I understand he's a major prick.

Yes, this started out as a sarcastic post. But sarcasm is based on partial or wished for truths.

I happen to like the solid center block Prospect idea. Somehow his name is attached to that, whether he deserves it or not.

His website is juvenile, disrespectful and boring.

What else nice can I say? Hmm... nothing.

Ah yeah, but it never stops one from filing a suit, anyway. We're not called a Letigious Society for nuttin'! ;)

In the end, its about the instrument, not the dealer.

The most irritating, obnoxious, underhanded, dishonest, loudmouth car dealer in the world can still sell you a great car if he has it on the lot.

;)

Exactly. And now the guys at Heritage will build you a Prospect with a solid block in it if that's what you want. When I was working on the specs for my Prospect, Ren and I had a lot of discussions about that choice. I ultimately went with the standard partial block in my Prospect, but if I hadn't, I don't think that I'd have been thinking about Ed Roman.

Well, yea he could, but I wouldn't buy it from that dealer but one I liked, trusted, and wanted to support. SO the dealer matters to me. Just my opinion.

;) I tend to by from people for two reasons. #1 knowledge,#2 Honesty. I will not buy from someone who's stiffed me or someone I know or anyone who has acted like they know everything about everything. I don't care how great the price is or how great they say their product is. I really like dealing with the small buisness every chance I can. They appreciate your buisness more and 99% of the time they are truthful and very knowedgeable. Just my opinion.

Friends of Ed Roman, countrymen, lend me your ears. I come to praise Ed, as the thread suggests! It has been said that Ed was ambitious by honourable men. I say that Ed is in reality a man so handsome many despise him for his noble visage, mane, and beard! Who among you, good citizens, lacks ambition? Do not smirk as you gaze at the Roman Empire, such as it now is, laid bare on his website. Oh mighty friend of rockstars, why are you selling your boats, mammoth RV, homes and objets d'art on the same website as your guitars? I still say the king is Ed, long live the king!

Lucky is an understatement!! The fact that I got a brand new, from the factory OSB H-535 that retails for 3+K (with a "scratch" in the finish that I still cant see) for $1750 is a freakin miracle..Thanks Vince and Jim!! :dontknow:

I have not had any dealings with him either, but when so many people, whose opinion I value slam someone..and I know their motivations are good..I tend to listen..My 2 cents..YMMV..

Nope, he is a steaming turd!

Actually a steaming turd is fresh. Ed ain't. He is more like the white dried dog turds you see when mowing. You know, the ones that look like pecan sandies.

Anyone here agree with Ed on this?

The lesson appears to be "Your LP will break into little pieces. But, I'll be glad to sell you a new one or put a new top on your old one! Can't do a thing to make the headstock stronger, though."

I hadn't read that one before...

It's all just salesmanship. He shows some breaks there that would very difficult to do... very.

It's just some silly BS to sell you something.

And yes, ed, we know that the headstock angle (which contributes to the sound and feel of the guitar) makes it more vulnerable. We like them that way.

THAT was a funny read.

My favorite part is "What is planned obsolescence?". Gibbon must be terrible obsolescence planners as I don't see them going the way of the Dodo anytime real soon even without changing the 'flaws'. They are too classic AND seeing as how there is such a large industry based on keeping these Gibbon alive, people will buy with confidence knowing that the guitar that reminds them of their heroes will be playing for years and years to come even with some lack of care on their part.

Wrong neck angle... geez. G is wrong-neck-angling it right to the bank.

He's an ignore-anus. Definition: one who makes stuff up to support his campaign, like politicians.
