eljay Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 or must such be a retrofit? hello! a fellow on gibson-talk.com is trying to get a gib345 like the one he had long ago but he cannot afford vintage and the current gib reissues don't do it for him. it occurs to me that varitone gear installed in a 535 might be the ticket for him. does anyone here know whether marv & the crew would be open to including varitone-ish hardware in a build? not sure if "varitone" per se is proprietary to gibson--it might be--but the internet shows aftermarket vendors of v-tone-like gear. a chance to win another H convert? thanks for help. p.s., i want to preserve calls to the H factory for such time as it's important to MY guitar

Just buy a 555 ! The Gib was not stereo either,it was duophonic, the ability to put each pickup through a separate amp.( The only true stereo guitar I remember was a Kramer in the '70's with tone, volume & 6 pan pots ! ) I think if anyone wants to compare quality, side by side the instruments, and Heritage wins hands down.I've included pictures of the opposition from the golden era of 1962,now long gone. The Variswitch to me was a great disappointment. Peter Alton Green.
peteraltongreen Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Sorry, forgot to mention the '60's neck was too thin too ! My pal has a '66 335 & the neck is almost like the width of a Mandolin. Peter Alton Green
