Guest mgoetting Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 The most underappreciated guitars are the Roy Clark and the Prospect. The most undervalued is the 140. There are only a few Roy Clarks made per year. Beautiful maple necks. Much like the older 555 with a single cutaway and a woodier tone (and the potential for feedback). The Prospect is cute, in a very manly way of course. Not taken seriously but it should be. It only weighs about 6 ounces with a Bigsby, so no shoulder or back troubles after a 12 hour gig. The 140 is fairly popular but used prices on it suggest it is merely the bastard stepchild of the 150. I started out with one guitar in mind for this rant. As I write this the list keeps getting longer. So I'll stop.
smurph1 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 I'm trying to remember..the Prospect is a full hollow? is that correct..It looks a lot like a 535, but I was trying to remember the differences..Maybe a bit smaller body?

The Prospect has a smaller body and has a partial center block. I'm guessing it's 6 lbs or so. Kuz Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Prospect - my favorite Heritage. Nah, really? The Prospect your favorite Heritage? I never heard that before......
tulk1 Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 Nah, really? The Prospect your favorite Heritage? I never heard that before...... I know, I've never mentioned that before. I should probably be more vocal about it, eh?
yoslate Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Hey, Kenny.... Do you think the Prospect is under-appreciated? And what would be your favorite Heritage...?
big bob Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I would argue the most under appreciated Heritage is the American Eagle.. No one here ever talks about them. and I don't think any of us have one ...

I don't know, Bob, I think a few HOC members do own the Eagle - I've seen pictures of them here, and remember the Eagle on the lovely headstock.

No one here ever talks about them. and I don't think any of us have one ... You may be right. I've seen quite a few birds, some high fliers, but never an American Eagle. Not many were made I believe. Damned expensive. Although a HOC member emailed me today that he may be closing in on a Citation, speaking of price tags.

And yes, I still think the Prospect is the most underappreciated semi-hollow (hehe) that Heritage makes.
blueox Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 "The most underappreciated guitars are the Roy Clark and the Prospect." Okay, which Roy Clarks are we talking about since some years were single cutaways and other years are double cutaways, or are we considering all of them? As far as the most underappreciated Heritage, to me hands down it would have to be the H110. They are extremely rare. I'm always drawn to variations, so when the factory came out with it for 2009, right away I was very interested, leading up to my custom H110 earlier this year.
erictheweasel Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I, for one, am seriously interested in a prospect. It strikes me as being a very intriguing instrument.
Kuz Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Out of all the archtops Heritage makes..... I think I would want a custom color Henry Johnson. If you have caught any of HJ's stuff "Evening At Sea" is one of the finest guitar jazz albums I have ever heard!
mark555 Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 H140 with P90's - just the job, very underrated and undervalued.
Ray Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Out of all the archtops Heritage makes..... I think I would want a custom color Henry Johnson. If you have caught any of HJ's stuff "Evening At Sea" is one of the finest guitar jazz albums I have ever heard! Totally agree with you. Henry Johnson Signature model is definitely a fantastic instrument. I am fortunate enough to play his personal guitar almost every weekend and I can honestly say that its sound/tone is very rich – not like any of the guitars I own or played to date. I find it hard to put down every time I play it and it is sensibly priced compared to the Gibson equivalent that retails at approximately $10,000 - street price (list price is just over $14,000).
smurph1 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I, for one, am seriously interested in a prospect. It strikes me as being a very intriguing instrument. Outside of the floating center block, and the smaller body dimensions,Seems like a 535, pretty much..Or are are tones really a lot different? I've never played a Prospect so I don't know..
Spectrum13 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Prospects are not unappreciated down here. Think of a smaller 530 with less feedback (floating block) and more sustain (stoptail)
