H Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I recently sold my H-516 to a guy from Wales - his band is called The Numbers Racket and you can find them on Youtube. He plays a mean solo! It turned out during the sale that he already had a 516 but with a repaired neck-break. I was told a while back by a couple of people in the UK who know these things that there are maybe only two 516s in all of the UK, so it's possible he has both of them now! I've asked him to join the HOC so let's see if John from Wales turns up sometime soon He sent me some pics - the one I sold to him has the flamed pickguard.
FredZepp Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Very nice... those have that classic Heritage look ... Handmade to be warm, responsive and... full of tone. He has great taste in guitars...

FrankV Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 how do these differ from the 535? I see what looks like a larger body, and is it thicker? and the trapeze tail piece, but if they had the same pickups, how would they sound if you compared them?

H Posted October 7, 2010 Author Posted October 7, 2010 how do these differ from the 535? I see what looks like a larger body, and is it thicker? and the trapeze tail piece, but if they had the same pickups, how would they sound if you compared them? I had the 516 at the same time as my 535 and can do a comparison of sorts Same pickups on both (stock Schallers). The 516 is a hollowbody with a rim depth about 3in. I could get a lower usable action on the 535 and it is much more 'rock' to the 516's jazz tone. All my friends commented on how pretty the 516 was but they wanted to play the 535 after using them both. I strung the 516 with flatwounds after a while and found it suited that sound well. In essence, it was designed for a jazzy sound and that's really what it's for.
