koula901 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I'm considering a lefty 535 but he has high order pups on there - never heard of them. Anyone here have any experience with them? If so, how do you like them and how do you think they compare with Seth Lovers, I happen to really like SDs.
H Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Lots of good reviews on Gear Page and Harmony Central. They seem to be a boutique, asymmetrical wind pickup. Go for it What's the finish on the 535?

Go for it What's the finish on the 535? he says it's a dark almond sunburst with all gold hardware, I'm still waiting for him to post pics, but its a 2009 - it can't be in too bad a shape, quarter sawn mahogany neck (is that special? it seems to be), wood pick guard - I don't know the color of that yet). It's a Lefty.
H Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Koula, that sounds sweet! Hope you get it so you can post up some pics, you know we love them!

Steiner Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 he says it's a dark almond sunburst with all gold hardware, I'm still waiting for him to post pics, but its a 2009 - it can't be in too bad a shape, quarter sawn mahogany neck (is that special? it seems to be), wood pick guard - I don't know the color of that yet). It's a Lefty. Virtually all necks are quartersawn. Plainsawn is too unstable and the more desirable riftsawn has far lower yeild. When I see quartersawn I think of "fine simulated leather"; marketing people, sheesh! I am, however, a sucker for Heritage's Almond Burst! Be careful, people selling lefty guitars seldom divulge that the strings and controls are on the wrong side of the guitar...

Thanks for the wise advice, Steiner, he will post pics this weekend, and I can check for the right placement of the knobs. I did google search him, he's in new mexico, and found some kind of a social website with him in a picture with a lefty guitar, so, I think the guitar is legitimately lefty, he ordered it custom. This almond burst is a *dark* almond bust, so, a little bit different flavor than your usual almond ice cream. Cheers! : )
Steiner Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Sounds like a sweet guitar. I'd love to see the difference making the Dark distinction. All the Almond Bursts I've seen are quite dark - and tasty. Good luck. We're all counting on you.

All the Almond Bursts I've seen are quite dark - and tasty. That's the color I chose when I ordered the 357. Dark Almond Burst. Every time I hear the UPS truck I jump up so fast I hit my knees on the computer table. Koula, I hope you find the brown truck making you jump like that soon. If you don't like the pups that come with it take it to a descent guitar mechanic and have him change the pups out for you. I did electronic R&D work as a prototype builder for almost 15 years. I could do the job but I would hate it six ways to Sunday. The 535 is a fine make. It is the guitar that fits me best.
212Mavguy Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 IMHO dark almond sunburst is about as pretty as vintage wine burst to my eyes, very special. +1 for HFB's post, too.
TalismanRich Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Koula, I think you'll love the 535. They're great guitars and they cover a LOT of sonic landscape. Other than cherry (my favorite), I think the Almond Burst would be my next choice. My 157 was ordered with AlSB. They look really good! Hope you enjoy it!
golferwave Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I'm not familiar with the High Order pickups but I went to their website and they look to be a very high quality hand wound pickup. Should give you great tone with your 535. BTW...Dark Almondburst is a fantastic finish...love it.

The dark almond burst is indeed a gorgeous color, seller sent me a pic of it. now to work out the details of transaction . . .
golferwave Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I forgot to mention that the Alnico 2 magnets in the High Order pickups are my favorite magnet. To my ears they give a creamier, smoother PAF tone than the A5 magnet. Once again, everyones ears are different, but that's my take.
212Mavguy Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Koula, I don't have a 535, but I do have a 555 with Seths in it. Don't know whether your parents gifted you with a big strong body or a more petite physique...If you are comfy holding a guitar of that body shape and size for some time playing it whether standing or sitting (the way you play most of the time) you will most likely value it highly. Very versatile and musical in what can be delivered from fingers through amp(s).
koula901 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 Golferwave, I like a creamy sound to. Mavguy. I'm not petite, but rather average, big-boned gal. I had an ES 335 in the 1970s and Icould kick myself for selling it! A lefty, no less!
Ned Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 looks like this same guitar was posted this morning on the Santa Fe New Mexico Craigslist.
koula901 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 looks like this same guitar was posted this morning on the Santa Fe New Mexico Craigslist. Yup! that'd be the one. He first listed on Craigs List, Albuquerque last friday, the 8th.
