Guest mgoetting Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I've wrestled with pup toggle switches that get wobbly in the middle position. I hate to replace the switch because of the hassle. Bending the "whatevever they're calleds" so that there is bidirectional pressure can get dicey. I hate to leave it rattling only because the buzzing it annoying. Of course the noise goes away as soon as I flip it to either pup. Advice?
Thundersteel Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Of course the noise goes away as soon as I flip it to either pup. I think you just answered your own question. Seriously, it's probably easier to install a new, quality-made switch.
602a Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Mark be careful if this is a older and well used switch. I did the same about 2 weeks ago on my Explorer and ended up breaking the side guides on the switch. It is a whole lot easier for you to just go by the factory and get one.
kbp810 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I hope this wasn't the one I sent you a while back, I think it was still new/never used As already said above, sounds like you might as well throw a new one in
H Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Hi Mark, Get yourself a Switchcraft switch from eBay; you'll need to take a look inside to work out whether it's a long or short version. It's about 15 minutes careful work to remove the old one and put in the new. Try it - you'd be surprised how straightforward these things can be and how much you pay for the privilege of having someone else do it. The satisfaction of doing something like this is huge, believe me

It does not wobble. H says it's 15 minutes. For me, I have to clean off my workbench to make room and put a thick blanket on it. Fortunately, I don't have to pull off the pup to reach to the toggle. Unfortunately, once I do this project, no guitar will be safe. I'm going to put in some push-pulls for splitting and new pups.
golferwave Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I'd bet the guys at the factory would do it for you.
