koula901 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Hi folks, I just got pics of my H 137, to arrive on Saturday. I'm concerned about the neck joint. I'll attempt to load pics into this post via my new google picasa website. If they're loaded correctly, check the pic of back of the guitar, check the neck joint-doesn't appear to be glued on tightly - I'm seeing a gap. what do you think, and I'm wondering if there will be recourse. My link
TalismanRich Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I think you are just seeing a shadow. I've watched them set necks at the PSPs and they take a LOT of care to fit them right. The process of fitting the neck takes a fair amount of time, and a gap would never pass even a casual inspection.
Cryoman Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I just can't see it from your photos. Sure looks fine to me. In one of the photos (photo 12 of your link set) we see the side of the neck joint and the reflection of the horn, you'd see a discontinuity here if the neck were separated - looks perfectly smooth in the lacquer reflection. Ditto for photo 18. I suggest what you are seeing is the corner of the interface between neck and body where its a little harder to get a nice, perfectly smooth continous lay down of the nitrocellulose lacquer. So it looks "ratty" and not perfect. Without the benefits of seeing it in my hands, I'd say it looks perfectly normal in my experience. You might try illumination with bright sunlight or a super strong LED flashlight and a magnifying glass to really look deep below the lacquer. Cheers, Cryoman PS. Nice guitar
FredZepp Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 It's just dust or a shadow in that pic.. Check this one... no problem.
Patrick Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Katy; I do see what you see, and I understand your apprehension. I would be equally concerned. However, pictures can be and usually are very deceptive. If this problem is as real in person as it appears to be in the photos . . . it would be by far, the biggest screw up I have known Heritage to make ... in the 16 years I'm dealing with them. That's why I think the photos are deceiving you. There does appear to be something there. I highly doubt it is a separation of a glue joint. I would say, forward the photos to Vince, let him know of your concern . . . and then wait until you get the guitar for a better live evaluation. As to whether or not there will be recourse ... the answer is a resounding YES. Heritage will not allow you to live with anything that is less than 100% acceptable when receiving a new guitar. It might just be a case of an improperly sanded area . . . as was the case with my new Golden Eagle. DO NOT HIT THE PANIC BUTTON YET!!!!
koula901 Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 Fred, yea, I know--I couldn't reconcile the two photos, but thanks for taking a close look.
Patrick Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I just saw an enhancement of the area you're concerned with ... compliments of fredzepp . . .(I wish I knew how he does that stuff) It confirms what I and others have replied to you. Rest well tonight. Your guitar is fine. You will not be disappointed.
FredZepp Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Ummm.. and the other side of the guitar looks really nice also.... Shall we show it?

Spectrum13 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Sweet looking 137DC, love the finish and bet that maple cap adds some snap. Are you going to string it Albert style?
FredZepp Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Cool... it is an awesome axe. I believe that you will find that it fits like a glove and is ready to rock. ( mark my words on that ) Here's a big pic..
High Flying Bird Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 That really looks nice. You have some nice photos as well. Congrats!
golferwave Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 A real beauty! I really like that wineburst finish...classy...Enjoy!
big bob Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 WOW... That is awesome... You are gonna love that.. I think the photo in question about the neck is just your imagination in overtime.
tulk1 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 And from another angle! That is such a gorgeous guitar. I can't imagine they'd let that out with any neck flaws. Beautiful, just .... beautiful!
koula901 Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 Thanks, guys. I'm starting to relax about this now. Tomorrow, I will be ripping open the box, and ripping through some power chords. Cheers!
H Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Very nice You're going to love the noise from those P-90s Looks a bit like my 170, take a look in my gallery. How long until the 535 arrives?
tulk1 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Thanks, guys. I'm starting to relax about this now. Tomorrow, I will be ripping open the box, and ripping through some power chords. Cheers! You know you're not alone in your anxiety induced apoplectic psychosis, don't you? When I ordered my first custom Heritage it took me months to decide on exactly what I wanted. I bugged certain members here until I'm sure they were tired of me. ("oh no, another PM from Kenny!!). On a lark I called the plant and got Ren. Asked if he could take build pics. Turns out, the guitar was done, getting a final look/see and would be shipped the next day (a WOW factor and another story). He said he had pics already and sent them to me. Uh .... what the heck was all that red doing on my guitar? I'm not a fan of red guitars and specifically asked for NO red to show. I was devastated. Heartbroken. Downtrodded. And just plain bummed out. My "list" of com padre's all got the pics - they all told me to calm and wait. When I opened the box and then the case ......... all fears were immediately forgotten. Heck, they even got one spec wrong, but I didn't care. So .... whats the point? That it's good to see you "starting to relax". And to let you know you're not alone in your pre-delivery jitters. Of course, you'll need to post a clip or two of those power chords!
tbonesullivan Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 definitely nothing wrong with it. It's just a shadow. All of the other pics clearly show a correctly done neck joint. Only real problem is that it's backwards.
koula901 Posted October 23, 2010 Author Posted October 23, 2010 Sweet looking 137DC, love the finish and bet that maple cap adds some snap. Are you going to string it Albert style? Hi Spectrum, It's not really a maple cap, just a veneer. And,for the ignorant, what is string it Albert style, please?
