Sticky Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Do all of Heritage's P 90 equipped guitars come with Lollar P 90's? I'm wondering what model of P 90 comes in the H150's...overwound, underwound, 50's wind, the "standard" Lollar P 90? Or does it vary from guitar to guitar? Thanks, Sticky

Thanks, Sticky I don't know the definitive answer to that question, but it does seem that the Jason Lollars are on several different models, both solid body, semi-holllow, and hollow guitars. However, the good news is they'll put in whatever you ask them to.
Kuz Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 The stock p-90 in Heritage guitars are Lollar STANDARD wound p-90s. So unless someone (like Brent did) special orders a guitar and asks for different p-90 pups, they will come with Lollar Standard wind p-90s.
Kuz Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 I think the Bird's new bird has Phat Cats. Obviously a special order request.... and not to get technical, I LOVE Phat Cats, but by strict definition Phat Cats are not P-90s. But DAMN do they sound great, and just as good as many companies "real" P-90s. I would hesitate for a second buying Phat Cats, but I REALLY love the 3 guitars that has Lollar P-90s. In my opinion, Lollar P-90s are the best sounding P-90s available and by far the best pickup that Jason Lollar makes. I really don't care for his humbuckers that much....
tulk1 Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Even Lollar says his humbucker sized P90s don't sound like P90s. Close, but not exact. They can't because of the bobbin dimensions. But yeah, PhatCats sound awesome. Someday, I'm going to get real P90s on something, tho'.
Steiner Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Glad to hear you're approval of the Phat Cats. The 137s are a great P90 alternative. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
blues Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 I pulled the lollar p-90s from my h137dc and got a set wound for me by Budz pickups.Check him out. http://budzguitars.com/ He makes the best tele pups ive heard so when I wanted to try different p90s I called him. Im very happy, improvment for sure. Great guy to talk to.

Thanks, Sticky Stew-Mac sells "Parsons Street" Golden Age P-90's that are unwaxed & unpotted, like the originals. However, they're soapbars.- Charles Bevell
Guest HRB853370 Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 What about the original P-90, from Gibson. Will Heritage install those upon request? All the other P-90's like Lollar, etc are just trying to replicate the original tone, correct?

blues Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I've known Dave for some time; he's a good guy. He spent alot of time with me on the phone, Besides dialing in the P-90s,we spent alot of time talking gear, guitars. A+

A+ He comes from one hell of a musical family. There's a deep pool of knowledge there. Were you unhappy with the Lollars? Let us know what the Budzs do for you. Will - I have an SG with P90s. I'm thinking seriously about buying Blues' old Lollars to put on the SG. I like them that much more.

The Lollars sounded sterile to me. Bridge was to bright, The Budz bridge is more balanced. I think its that West like punch you in the face P-90. The neck has nice chime to it,great low end that dont get muddy or fall through.Huge difference. Great clean. For me its all there. I dont have an archtop, but Thorogood had them with p-90s. Now dont get me wrong.Im not trashing Lollar's. This is just what I think. But Lollar make his pups for Heritage all the same(specs) as in for H-150 to H137 or any p-90 for what I understand. You may like something I dont and depending on what model have YMMV. I have an H137dc one piece neck and body. I talk to budz telling him what I had and talked and he wound a set. Tried them on one of his simular guitar and sent me them. As for the Lollars I put in the buy, sell,or trade. I posted that they were sold, less than an hour after I sold them.
Rude Dog Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 I have a pair of Sheptone P90s. I lov'em! + they're only $160 for a pair. Never tried Lollars.
bolero Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I have a pair of Lollar P90's in an SG, they sound amazing!! when I heard Heritage was specing them I was impressed, they are much better sounding the Gibson P90's in fact I'll probably keep them once I sell that gtr also have a set of Lollar imperials in my blue H150, which compare favourably with Wolfetone Legends, Throbak SLE101's that I have in other gtrs. All of which I prefer to the Duncan, WCR, new Gibson pups I've used
smurph1 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 I just bought a gibson LP "special with the stock Gibson P-90's..gotta say, I Love em..Very Chimey, especially throught my old Gibsonette amp!!
blues Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I had a hard time saying why I liked the Budz pickups. He has a new website now with sound samples. One of them is soapbar pickup. This is what mine are like they just have a dogear cover. http://budzguitars.com./budzguitars/Soap_Bars.html
