ces Posted October 27, 2010 Author Posted October 27, 2010 Hi Ces, Welcome and thanks for bringing up this topic. I also have a 2002 157 looks just like yours with the Schaller hardware and pickups. I've considered changing the hardware as well, good info in this thread if I ever do. Would be interested in your results once you're done with the project. Lots of guys here change out the Schaller stuff and many don't. The last Luthier I spoke to spoke highly of the hardware but mentioned that he locks down the side roller positioners after he has the proper spacing set and also notches the rollers some how for proper height. good to know. I bumped into the prev owned last nite at Guitar Center. He's a well known gitzy, and I trust his opinion. He said if he ever changed the pups on this axe, it's be with SD JB & '59. I've heard a lot of people love the Schaller hw that came stock on my guitar, but even Heritage has changed their m.o. and now puts TonePro on their stuff. That's saying something. I'm not sure what. Could be a part quality and performance improvement. Could be lower build cost... Hope it's not the latter. Anyway this forum has been well helpful.
smurph1 Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Hi ces, welcome to the HOC..I just bought a 535 that came stock with tone pros hardware..I can't praise the quality enough..Just the little addition of the allen screw, to hold the thumbwheel right where I want it, is worth the price of admission..Nice git by the way!!
ces Posted October 28, 2010 Author Posted October 28, 2010 Turns out this H-157 came with a very clean set of HRW's in it. I took a pic I'll post later, since I'm typing this on my phone. I sure didn't want to tear the covers off such a nice set of pups, so I'm tagging and bagging them instead. This gtr looks mean with the Seymour Duncans in it. My new bridge & tail won't arrive until tomorrow, so we all have to wait another day to see the end result. cheers
ces Posted October 28, 2010 Author Posted October 28, 2010 On the bench at orbiterguitars.com Seymour Duncans lookin' good on there to me... A JB & A '59 Here's the HRW's... My luthier said these pups and their installation was very clean and high quality. He's the one who taught me what a Heritage Guitar was in the first place... More pictures as soon as possible. Hopefully later today or tonight, PST. easy!
tulk1 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 HRWs in a 157. Thats pretty special. But I do think, and agree, that once you get the all black schema going, that is going to be one bad @ss looking plank.
ces Posted October 28, 2010 Author Posted October 28, 2010 I've been bitten by a bug to order a set of black Grover Rotomatics... Just to make it right. I hate doing things halfway. Like leaving the hs on this gtr gold. Where do you find black truss rod cover screws? I don't want to sand and paint my orig ones, if poss. I'd really like to leave all the og parts from this gtr intact. *guitar fever*
Spectrum13 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Carefull there CES. Someone might trip over it in the dark or knock if off a stand.
ces Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 Oh you're not familiar with my OCD that acts as a force field around my gear ? Buahahahahaha!
ces Posted October 29, 2010 Author Posted October 29, 2010 Ok gang, I'm back from the luthier, orbiterguitars.com We got the H-157 done... for now. Here's what's been done, and what's left to do. Gold Schaller bridge and tail stop exchanged for black TonePros Nashville tune-o-matic style bridge and trad Gibby stop tail. Marquis Dist. has the specs correct, first try. Gold HRW pickups for Black Seymour Duncan "59 neck and JB bridge pups, no covers. Stock Gold strap buttons for Planet Waves black buttons. To do: Factory gold 3 way switch for Gibson all black 3 way switch. Gold Grover Roto-Matic tuners for Black Grover Roto-Matic tuners. Not black chrome, or black nickel. and some black truss rod cover screws... She is singing! Tone is sweeeeet... Here's what she looks like as of now... Thanks HOC for all the help!
FredZepp Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 That has a great look... and once the final details are done, a sweet looking axe is the result. You visualized it perfectly it seems. I'm sure that it sounds and plays excellent as these always do. Great project, thanks for the pics.
ces Posted October 30, 2010 Author Posted October 30, 2010 Thanks Zepp and all of you for your guidance, support, comments and interest. bless
