crocane Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 I have a H-555 that I bought this past summer. I love it. For years I was an acoustic only player and then bought a strat a couple of years ago and then the H-555 recently. I have changed the strings on it once. That was my first time changing stings on that type of bridge...which is a tone pros bridge and stop tail. I was suprised to find that the bridge and the stop tail were basically loose and were only held on to their pegs by the stings. Also, I was suprised that the height on the bridge was very easily changed on accident when the strings are off. Here are my questions...I noticed that there are allen screws that can be tightened, presumably to hold the bridge and stop tail in place. Do you normally have these allen screws tighted all the time? Or are they just for tightening when you change strings? Or do you not use them at all? Also, what do you do to prevent adjusting the bridge height when you change strings? Just measure they height and reset it to that height? Sorry if these sound like stupid questions but I was taken back by it before. Just not used to that type of bridge and stop tail. Thanks

Unless you are changing string gauge, you will probably seldom change the bridge height, assuming it is optimal for your set.
tulk1 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 I'm not totally convinced the 'zoo boys know about the set screws. I had to tighten the factory installed TonePro's on all 3 of my H's that came with them. And two of those were custom ordered guitars.
mars_hall Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Once set, leave them alone and tightened. The zoo crew may leave them loose because they figure the end user will adjust to his preferences and it is one less step in the process.
smurph1 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 My 535 came with the Tone Pros Hardware, and the allen screws were loose from the factory, but since I'm a tweaker and I like to set my own action and intonation it was no problem..i just got her where I wanted her, tightenend it down and started playing the snot out of it..She sings like a bird!!
smurph1 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Plus I think if you tighten the screws down it increases the guitars sustain..YMMV!!
crocane Posted October 28, 2010 Author Posted October 28, 2010 Great...thanks. That makes sense to me. I didnt know if it was supposed to stay loose since it came that way.
