When did Heritage cease to make acousic dreadnought guitars? Regarding that, does anybody own a 445 and how do they like it? And how do Heritage acoustic guitar rate against Taylors, Guilds, Martins, Gibsons, etc, all things being equal.

Not sure of the exact date they stopped making them. Several members here have them. And they stack up just fine against the brands you mention. The bodies are Larrivee design; necks were Heritage design; then the two parts were matched, set and finished at the plant. Very nice guitars. Wish I had one.

I had a 445 but I sold it to Steiner when I got this one. It is a 475.

I was in a hurry earlier - they stopped making acoustics around 92' or 93'.

A Heritage acoustic has a deeper sound than a Martin but they still have great highs. A 445 has a fat neck like the 137s I have seen. The 475 has a thin neck which I like better. I am lucky to have the 475. It is the perfect guitar for me. Steiner is lucky to have the 445 and he knows it. He makes good use of it, that's for sure.

yup...around '92 they stopped.

I love my HFT 450...it has a great tone and is one hell of a looker!!!

mine was a factory reject. broken neck during production. wasn't even buffed. But it is an exquisite sounding instrument, it was love at first sight. I have never owned a guitar that stays so in tune. even if temp. changes cause a drop/rise in pitch, all the strings pitch equally and it still is in tune relatively speaking.

Because it has no "real" value due to the neck break, it is still my most beloved axe and I would add that the wear on it is all "honest" wear.. :)

I do want to have pickups installed for direct output, but when I play it up to an instrument mike at church it fills the room with sound. In an enclosed room, the strings ring.

BTW mine is a HFT445, the model Heritage made the most of in numbers. Keep your eyes open they come up for sale from time to time.

By the way, welcome to the HOC

I spotted one recently with the serial number Nxxxxxxx so they had to have made them at least until 1997

interesting, I have been looking at acoustics lately & have been VERY impressed by Larrivee; went to a local shop & played Taylors, Martins, Collings, Bourgeois, Gibsons ( they had some '50's J45/50's, pretty cool stuff ) and the Larrivee's certainly held up & in many cases sounded better

my faves were the D03 & L09 models

I'd heard the name before but kind of blew them off as a Seagull/Norman etc brand...but they are a completely different company, on the west coast, and make killer acoustics

so if they were involved with the bodies, I'm sure they were all great guitars

who knows, maybe I'll find a Heritage acoustic used somewhere...but right now have my eyes on a Larrivee L09

I have a '92 Gibson J200 as well but it is a different sound than a mahog/rosewood dread

Larrivee is actually a Canadian builder. He just has his bigger shop in California. I put Larrivee's right up there with the best Martins and Taylors. My singer plays a Larrivee. What a sweet tone that guitar has.

ah, I knew he was based out of vancouver, but wasn't aware of a US plant

that makes sense, I saw one with a "made in USA" sticker & was wondering what was up!

cheers

bought my 445 beater from bluegrasser in K'zoo. love it for that kinda thing, country & folk & such. around '02 Jim Deurloo told me they "stopped making them when the guy retired a few years ago"...

No, it went to over $900 which was way beyond what I had in mind. I thought I might snare it for around $700. Oh well.

Too bad. Nice looking instrument. The market is screwy on some of the lower end guitars. I've been looking for a nice parlor guitar for my girl friend. I was thinking of a Gibson "B" series. Up until a year or so ago I could find them locally for $300-$400, now I'm watching them go for $800-$1000. They are nice little guitars but not that nice. Oh well, I guess I'll just keep looking. These Heritage acoustics sure have sparked my interest though.
