High Flying Bird Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 This is the Chase Depot. It is just north of Huntsville. The other day when I called to thank Marv he mentioned the Chase area. I thought I would send him a print of this next week.
FredZepp Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 You'd mentioned that you wanted to do this.... and now you have delivered. Exceptional work. I love the b/w - color effect. I bet that this brings a smile to Marv's face........ well done.
Kuz Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Super, super, super cool!!! Marv is going to love it!!!
SouthpawGuy Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Excellent ! A candidate for a future HOC calendar me thinks.

Steiner Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Can you photoshop a red tailed hawk sitting on the roof listening? Nice shootin' Tex...
Doug Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Nice shot Ron. Cool guitar too... it's almost as stunning at that FirebirdX
kbp810 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Very well done!! The photography is as inspirational as the instrument it was intended to highlight!
zookroo1 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Sweet! That's the foldout in your CD booklet when you release it...

schundog Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 That is probably one of the nicest things Marv has ever gotten from one of his patrons; Very SRVesque!! (And I mean that in the best possible way!)
koula901 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 That is SUCH a cool pick, Bird! I love the contrast.
High Flying Bird Posted October 30, 2010 Author Posted October 30, 2010 First off let me say thank you for your kind replies. I was afraid that the whole get up may have been over the top, but hell, any of those who have met me know that's my trade. I was wearing the type of overalls that have a stretchy section at the back hip instead of a solid sewn in piece. Very accurate for the time that Marv left Huntsville - 1955. The hat is also period attire for that time and the shoes are old brogans I picked up when I did re-enacting. I will Photoshop the telephone junction on the right out of the final photo. I will never be able to do this guitar justice with my musical talents but maybe I will make the man who made this guitar happy with my tribute. The Firebird was cranked up a tad tonight over at Joe's. It has some righteous tone! I thank the craftsfolk at 225 Parsons. Oh, I was playing slide in the pic. My new album is called, "Can't Play Fur Shit." (old picture)
212Mavguy Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Art elecits comments from different emotions as the result of impacting the viewer's emotional and cognitive filter(s)... but THIS art deserves nothing but sincere praise. HFB, you did a heroic thing.
brentrocks Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Ron you have a real talent in your photography. i wish you lived closer...i would like to have some pics done with my 357...and do that B&W/color stuff
golferwave Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 That's one of the neatest pictures I've seen Ron. Playin your axe while waitin for the 4:15. VERY cool.
chico Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Ron, Is there an active rail line past this spot today? Yeah, I know only a foamer (railfan) would ask a question like that..me and eljay being the foamers on this board.. ..by the way, Ren is a foamer too.... The clothes/hat as you mentioned, very period correct for the 50s. Allow me...check out this photo I restored, taken by friends of mine, of their dad at work in the small wooden depot back in the 50s. He did the duties of a local station agent including copying orders sent by telegraph to pass on to trains, instructing them where to meet other trains, etc. Flannel shirt. Dungarees. Pipe, Prince Al.. tapping out the orders 24/7/365.. sans firebird of course.. One day a week off. Only the station cat to keep him company in those late night hours.. your photo has the same feel Ron.
High Flying Bird Posted October 30, 2010 Author Posted October 30, 2010 Is there an active rail line past this spot today? - ......your photo has the same feel Ron. No, the North Alabama Railroad Museum owns a section of track but it isn't used by modern trains these days. It is only used by the NARM for educational "porpoises." Thanks for the kind words Ray. I knew your "trained" eye would be looking at the details so I had to put my best effort into this.
jmc7581 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 I'm coming late to this party, but HFB - that's masterful is all aspects - set-up, framing, lighting; it could be any time, and you could be any bluesman in the south. What a touch this man has!
