Welcome!

the bodies on the H 170s now are thicker, the horns are more rounded....i think those are the 2 big differences

Thanks,I`m also seeing a totally different neck joint, more akin to a dc lp junior, whereas my own is done more like a Vee. The newer horns look plain ugly to me,why was that done?

Here is an '86 H170 for comparison.. med_gallery_139_46_500419.jpg

or an '85..med_gallery_560_197_48519.jpg

The H-140 went through the same evolution of the shape of the horn....

Yeah, I gotta agree - I think the pointier horns do look better - more modern.

Looks to me like the original model H170 is a double cut H140. Current model H170 is a double cut H150. And since the current model H140 is a smaller version of the H150, it follow that the H170 would look like the H150/H140. Only double cut ................ or something like that. :drunken_smilie:

did they change the horns on the H170 at the same time they changed them on the H150 to avoid problems with Gib$on?

That may be correct, but it makes no sense to me since the original 170 looked more like an Ibanez Artist than a double-cut Gibson.

+1 on that.. EXACTLY like the AR-300 I used to have..

The horns may be a bit ugly, but (as usual) the finish is gorgeous!!

But if you change the Jig for the 150, you change the jig for the 170. (cutting/routing jig) that is

Or ... maybe they've just moved away from the sharp, pointy horn era of guitars. Except for the Anniv H140, that is.
