koula901 Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 Koula, Awesome! So glad you were able to find a safe way to score this one. So what's next? You've got the Strat, the H137, the semi. I know. You need a Mille. Yes, you do. LK155 - OF COURSE I need a Mille but I'm trying not to think about that now. I have a brand new lovely box to spank, thank you very much, so I'm busy! It's kind of hard to spank your box in stillettos, ya know?

mark555 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Nice guitar Katy, I have a beautiful 555 in natural which is mellowing nicely, but I wish mine had a chunkier neck, I find it a bit on the thin and narrow side, a neck like the one on yours might suit me better - perhaps an excuse for a new guitar?? By the way, it is so easy to put digital pictures on the site, I am a neanderthal when it comes to technology, but even I can do it, and digital cameras have never been as cheap to buy, go for it!
koula901 Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 Mark555, On the camera - point well taken. On having the right neck on a guitar - I had a beautiful Suhr strat-style guitar that had an extra thin neck on it (I ordered it that way). Big mistake. I tried and tried for two years to get used to it. Come to find out, I'm better suited for a medium/chunky neck. I've been so much happier with the newer guitars I have, I would heartily encourage you to get a guitar with the right neck for you - you'll be so much happier, too.

My Tokai Love Rock (Les paul standard) is a 59 clone and has a really nice neck, I also like the PRS wide fat neck.My strat neck is nice, but the 555 is too narrow. However, Heritage guitars are very hard to source here in the UK so you have to take what there is and get used to it. Should I ever get the funds, a guitar built to my personal spec would be a must. Out of all the guitars I have ever had, the Tokai has the best neck, yet it is basically a Jap copy of a 59 les paul, albeit a superb guitar that can hold its own against guitars twice its price.
SouthpawGuy Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Looking good ! Congrats on your first Heritage semi .... I'm sure it won't be your last !
Guest HRB853370 Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Ah lah-ket Katie. Its simply gah-jis. Southern Speak. Ok, so a couple of questions. You have a Classic 30? Didnt know that. Are you sure its not a 555? When did 535's come with gold plated ware? About the chunky neck. If you got this off Craigs List, did you have a chance to see it, play it, or check out the neck before hand? And why did it take so long to get it? I am guessing an out of state purchase? I guess that new 137 wont get played much! Don't mind Patrick. His mind is in the gutter!

Mark555, I've heard good things about the Tokai guitars. As a lefty, I can appreciate that the right (rather, appropriate) guitar can be hard to come by. Let me tell you, getting a chunky neck at the Heritage is not custom - you can just ask for a chunky neck and there's no upcharge.

I don't own a Classic 30. Yes, I got it off Craig's list. I'm sure this is not a 555. I can see the confusion it must cause because it has the gold hardware. WHat this actually is is an H 535 23rd Anniversary Edition. They made some of these during their 23rd anniversary and it came with gold hardware, so nothing special was ordered except the chunky neck. I did not get a chance to play it, or check out the neck before hand - that's why I was freaking out. I did, however, get to see the pictures before I bought it and ask him some questions, and he did mention the chunky neck. And the reason it took so long is we were trying to figure out a way to get it to me, with some level of protection. After kicking around a few ideas, he had his friend, in a music store, sell it to me, so I could put it on Visa, and I asked him to write the serial number on a receipt, and I got that. The guita is mint - this couldn't have worked out any better. I've since learned that Craigs list is really for buying in your own state. This came from Santa Fe, I'm up in New England, so the shipping took about a week. Lefty, chunky, mint, inexpensive, nice guys to deal with - now that's rare, and lucky as hell. It was also very well packed - that's the toughest cardboard box I ever cut up.
koula901 Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Beautiful guitar and great enthusiasm. It'll be fun to see which one you gravitate towards most when playing. Ya know, Patrick, that's an interesting point. Now that I'm playing it, (and this is the first time I've owned more than 1 guitar at a time), I like them all for different reasons - they're like different children. After I picked up the 535, I thought: wow! I like this better than the 137. Then I picked up the 137, and it's wow! this feels really comfortable, and has a totally different sound. Then I pick up the MIM strat and think: wow! I really like the mid-range on this one. All of them different. It only wets my appetite for more! : )

Skinslammer has been around a long time, goes back to when I started slammin the skins. I am so happy you are happy, as there as many horror stories (i.e. 602a) as their are great stories such as yours, when buying a used guitar. I am like you, I never complain when I get a box that is packed so well it could withstand a nuclear attack, it just means the seller took extra time to make sure it arrived just like it left! Enjoy it and keep on telling us how much you love it. Maybe post some sound clips?
