Halowords Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Hey tulk1, First, how different do the colors show up in that Millie in real-life? Kind of a neat top, just curious. Second, for your Prospect, does it go from a very dark outer-burst to a more medium-dark brown? It kind of looks like it in this one: In this pic it looks like there is maybe a golden-brown inner-burst or at least some slightly lighter shade either in the middle or just at certain angles. Just trying to figure out how you'd describe that. The overall effect is nice. -Cheers
tulk1 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 David, the "leaning back" picture of the Prospect is probably closer to it's true color. The one laying flat the flash took a bit of the darkness out of the image. What you can't see in the pictures is that the Prospect has very little "yellow" in the middle. You can see the flame all around the wood - which is what I asked for. Does not fade to complete darkness on the edges. On the Millie, it looks like the picture. Here's a picture of the Millie NFH from PSPII. And this one from PSPIII
111518 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Rob, Patrick, thanks for kind comments about my 535. It is one of the very few new guitars I've ever owned, and only custom order that I'm likely to ever own --given prices, work prospects, and the fact that I already own way more guitars than I can justify even to myself. So, has a special place for me. (Sorry Patrick, not likely to come up for sell anytime soon. 'sides, I spec'd it, so you probably wouldn't really want it ... pretty sure it's unAmerican in some way or another. JUST KIDDING.) The main custom feature is the ebony fingerboard, which I think does tend to set off the 'burst --black rim of body into black fingerboard. That's the look I was after when I ordered it. Lots of pretty guitars on this thread. Took me a while to come to sunburst guitars ... once was devoted to natural finishes. But you see natural wood and color in life --where do you see a free hand 'burst? In one interview I read with McCarty about Gibson's golden age, he spoke about his pride in their sunburst finishes and that he saw that finish as a key element of the strength of the brand. I think the beauty and the uniqueness of each hand-sprayed 'burst guitar is one of my favorite things about Heritage. Lots of components of the craft of guitar making are inspiring to me ... but spraying a 'burst? Art.
Flat Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Hey Flat, any chance we could get a shot of your OSB 535 in natural sunlight a/o at an angle where the flash wouldn't glare? That is very nice though. I'd just be curious to see the finish in a more natural setting. -Cheers Hey David - I'd normally be happy to oblige, but at the moment we're in Japan and the 535 is back home in L.A. But as you might surmise, the poorly-lit room does make the guitar look quite a bit darker than it actually is. I'll be home in about two more weeks. If this thread is still kicking, I'll post a sunlit-pic then. Cheers, Flat

The closest I can come is going out for sushi and watching Akira Kurosawa movies. So yeah, you can totally be forgiven for enjoying your trip to Japan and not worrying about taking pictures of your H-535 across the sea.
