BobN Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Besides the trapezoid vs. dot markers on the neck, what's the difference between a Classic and CM? Also - have some small bubbles under the finish on the back of the neck. Are these something to worry about or just cosmetic? Will they get bigger if untreated. I thought it was just some gunk on the neck and when I went to rub it off the bubble moved a bit - so I left it alone. Thanks...
tbonesullivan Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 did you get this guitar new or used? is the finish sticky? that's really odd that a bubble would move under the finish. though they never really "cure" the nitro should not have any "bubbles" around it that move.
FredZepp Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Welcome to the club, BobN... The Classics that I'm familiar with were H-150CM Classics and had traps and Duncan pickups. But Heritage has made a wide variety over the years so any combination is possible. .. like the 150 specials, 150P models , I believe that they had a H-150 (not a CM) that had dots. Perhaps you have a H-150 that was upgraded to Duncan pickups, making it a classic. What does the label in the control cavity say? Pics would be great... we'd love to see the guitar and the bubble areas that are a concern.
H Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Welcome to the HOC Do you keep your 150 on a guitar stand? If so, is the bubble on the neck where stand's neck support touches?
tulk1 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 My custom built MIllie developed bubbles on the neck where it rested in the neck cradle in the case. It had never seen a stand. I sent it back to the 'zoo (it was new, under warrantly). They buffed the bubbles out. And it's been very stable since. However, the Millie bubbles didn't move. That is very odd.
BobN Posted November 5, 2010 Author Posted November 5, 2010 Including photos of the bubbles on the neck. They're not huge, don't effect the playability at all, but it's just one of those things... Also, the finish isn't sticky or uneven - just seems to have developed a couple of these pockets under it. I haven't tried popping them with a small guage needle, just to see if the nitro would settle down. Thoughts?
mars_hall Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 FWIW, that looks like an ebony fingerboard and I have seen them do the dots as opposed to traps on ebony boards. I have one very similar to this guitar that was custom built for John Ussery. It's label states it is a H150CM
BobN Posted November 5, 2010 Author Posted November 5, 2010 Good eye - it is an ebony fretboard. I have the same on my H555 Black Beauty so it was good to be able to keep the same on the 150. The pot cover says H150 Classic - no info on the pups on the cover. On the 555 it has the Seth Lovers listed. The eBay listing had then as Burstbucker Pros with CTS pots. The seller lives just a few miles from K'Zoo and had the frets dressed shortly before he put it up for auction. It's a 2004 model. Neck is slimmer than the 555 too. Great feel and as expected from a Heritage, exceptional tone.
Steiner Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Welcome BobN! I can't tell you about the bubbles (momentary flashback to former girlfriend...) but I've got to tell you I love that guitar! It looks sweet and vintage! You did a wonderful job with your photography. Are you a pro?
tbonesullivan Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 whoa... those bubbles almost look like ... HAMERITIS!!! Now, they move when you push on them? Could be that the finish has pulled away from the body in that area, maybe because something was on the neck before the finish went on. That's still kinda weird.
