H Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Fixed up my H-150 this evening by switching to 50s wiring, following some work at the weekend to install new caps to a Seymour Duncan diagram. Lost all my Limey Chime and the tone pots were next to useless. Used this diagram for the 50s wiring So now my controls look like this and she sings again Beautiful
kbp810 Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Well done, looks nice and clean - I was considering a similiar re-wire on my 575 with the Fat Goat P90's ...but then again, I think I've had my fill of wiring for a while after doing all this to some fella's Carvin: (HSS, 10 way S1, seperate Volume control on a push/pull pot for the humbucker...and if I ever see an S1 switch again it will be too soon!!!)
FredZepp Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 nice... Orange Drops and all... looks nice and clean.. My 157 has a few things added that made it rather a job...

Thanks Still learning to solder but I'm not scared of getting in there Lots of wire in that control cavity!
H Posted November 9, 2010 Author Posted November 9, 2010 nice... Orange Drops and all... looks nice and clean.. My 157 has a few things added that made it rather a job... Thanks Main thing is that I have the tone I wanted. Bumblebees, nice! Is the rest of the wiring for coil splits?
FredZepp Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Thanks Main thing is that I have the tone I wanted. Bumblebees, nice! Is the rest of the wiring for coil splits? It's like the Page setup.. splits, phase, series on push pulls. I remember your saying that you'd lost that chime... what was it that returned it...?
H Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 It's like the Page setup.. splits, phase, series on push pulls. I remember your saying that you'd lost that chime... what was it that returned it...? Wow! I think I'd get lost with so many options in there! I'm not sure which part of the rewire brought the chime/clarity back to be honest. After I'd wired it the Seymour Duncan way (caps piggybacking the tone controls) it got a bit woolly/muddy, as though I had the tone on 4 all the time. I researched this a bit and finally found a post on the mylespaul forum on wiring that helped, explaining how the different wiring variations (vintage, modern, independent volumes, master volume, etc) do what they do. It seemed from those posts that vintage/50s wiring was a good option for me. Twenty minutes of very careful soldering later I had a sound that I'm happy with; not perfect but more than good enough. I'm after that Townshend/Marriott P90 sound of the late 60s/early 70s and when I put my guitar through the Hiwatt amp sim in Guitar Rig 4 I can get pretty close: power with clarity/definition.
