needane Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Removed a guitar from case after about 1yr or longer storage and noticed tarnish on stop tail piece also on grover tuners, checked a couple more in same closet and they show no sign of this "problem"? Don't think its moisture problem because other guitars even 45 yr 335 is fine also, I know the instrument was cleaned and wiped down so sweat should not be problem. The guitar is a Heritage 2000 model yr and another Heritage 2002 yr model shows no sign. Is it best to replace piece or leave it be?
H Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Hi, I had the same issue with each of my Heritages with nickel plated Grovers. I changed them out for Klusons and solved the problem!
tbonesullivan Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Grover tuners are nickel plated, as is a lot of "vintage style" hardware, as they were nickel plated back in the day. If you pull them off and break out some brasso or other metal polish you should be able to get them back to looking good. Also make sure you keep them wiped off after you use the guitar.
