Guest mgoetting Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I shipped a guitar to a buyer. It arrived with a crack in the headstock/neck region. FedEx returned it to me today. It has been damaged further. The headstock is off and a large piece of the neck is chipped free. The bridge was loose in the case. This gouged and scratched the top. Claim forms have been submitted. The headstock is quite heavy due to the Grovers. That must have played a role. On arrival in South Carolina. Back in Michigan today.
H Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 That's awful Hope you can get this resolved quickly.
FredZepp Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Ummmm..... sad. ( the beheading title is funny, though..) That is guitar anti-porn.
Guest mgoetting Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Like Phoenix, it will rise from its ashes! Unless it's totaled.
smurph1 Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 MAN!! I just shipped a H-140 to nbp810 this morning..hope that doesn't happen to me!! now I'm scared!!
Halowords Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Like Phoenix, it will rise from its ashes! Unless it's totaled. Yeah, I'm guessing that'll need at least two or three more trips from FedEx before it gets that trashed. Presuming that doesn't happen, you getting the neck fixed? How hard would it be to replace the neck on a semi-hollow or hollow Jazzbox if it ever gets too bad?
Guest mgoetting Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I used to play a headless guitar but sold it four months ago. I'm not sure what that has to do with today. Except now I have another headless guitar.
tulk1 Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Are all the pieces there? Looks like it. That's fixable, altho' that really means nothing in the long run. Good grief .. that is sad.
big bob Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 oH that is,,, OH.... my.... great googlie mooglie.. there is a special place in hell for people who abuse innocent musical instruments.. I think I have some vomit in my throat!
Tim Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Unbelievable! I will never ship anything via FEDEX again after looking at that. What a shame!
GuitArtMan Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Ouch!!! Hope FedEx coughs up on the claim, and does so quickly. And now a little humor to help lighten up the situation (I hope):
Tim Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Ouch!!! Hope FedEx coughs up on the claim, and does so quickly. And now a little humor to help lighten up the situation (I hope): Ha! This video caused quite a stir with United Airlines! I think, in the end, they payed the claim and Dave got a new guitar. He was supposed to remove the video...still there though...I love it! Someone needs to do this to FEDEX...
Guest mgoetting Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 FedEx isn't the only carrier that can kill a guitar. About a month ago I received an Eagle Classic from Texas that UPS beat up. In fairness, the guitar was not packaged the best. But it was sent from a Heritage dealer, no amateur. It had to have been dropped fairly hard to knock the wood off of the tailpiece. That piece of wood gouged the guitar in two places and put a three inch, deep scratch on the top.
ces Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 the tbought of sbipping a guitar is frightening. i habe never done it. until this week. theres a Martin in UPS on its way to me in Cali from Mi. im not excited to be frank. fingers crossed. im sorry that happened. the shipping people call the guys that load the trucks, "throwers" i wish they treat our stuff as if something valuable and or fragile were in there. super NOT cool, FedEx. or should we call them DeadNex ?

FredZepp Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 All the ones that I've had shipped to Ohio , arrived safely..knock on wood... So maybe you guys should have it shipped here and I'll deliver your guitars to you at PSP.... Ok?
koula901 Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 OUCH!! It was like looking at a dead person. Hope it doesn't take long for the claim to pay out.
Guest mgoetting Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 OUCH!! It was like looking at a dead person. Hope it doesn't take long for the claim to pay out. A dead person who did not die of natural causes. Let's hope that it doesn't make it to the cold case files.
Millennium Maestro Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 So did FEDEX tell you they have a $1000 maximum insurance??? I dont ship FEDEX anymore because the guitars I ship arent cheap! Your a doctor, you have to power to rebuild it.... (Think Steve Austin)(homage to Patrick) Sorry for your loss, hopefully it will be resolved correctly.
Guest mgoetting Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 So did FEDEX tell you they have a $1000 maximum insurance??? That was my bad. I think I could have put a higher value on it. Of course, I never expected a cracked neck, let alone decapitation. If I shipped it a third time the guitar might come out toothpicks.

TalismanRich Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Have you considered having Heritage set a new neck? If it was my choice, that's probably the way I would try to go. That way you wouldn't have the scar, which might keep the value up and maybe get under the $1000 insurance level.

Guest mgoetting Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I can't do anything until FedEx resolves this. They told me to not touch it until the claim is resolved. I will bring the remains in to Heritage when the time comes.
