BigJim Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Hey All, I have a H-150 with original Schaller bridge & tailpiece. I'd like to replace the tailpiece, but keep the roller bridge. Does anyone make a wraparound tailpiece that'll fit?
H Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 If you're looking for a Gibson-style tailpiece, both TonePros and Faber (CVGuitars.com) make a locking version that I would personally recommend. Straight replacement in both cases but be careful of the metric/imperial thread sizes.

Does anyone make a wraparound tailpiece that'll fit? Hi BigJim, I used a Schaller Gibson style Stop Bar on my C140CM.As I recall I had to change the male threaded studs to accommodate the new unit, but they were threaded the same as the ones that were already in use,and supplied with the package. It was a simple job to fit.The difference was amazing.Don't screw the studs down tight to the body.Raise them so you still have a good break angle over the bridge.I still have the original roller bridge fitted. BigJim Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 This is a 1990 H-150. I'm trying to find a strings over the tailpiece design. Does anyone make one that'll work?
mars_hall Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 This is a 1990 H-150. I'm trying to find a strings over the tailpiece design. Does anyone make one that'll work? String-over can mean several things and wraparound usually implies a combination bridge and tailpiece in a single unit. There are a few Heritages with this on them though they are all special orders. Is this what you mean or are you familiar with the practice of reverse threading the strings through the tailpiece or like Brent does taking them under then over the top of the tailpiece? If the former is the case, then TonePros among others make a solution Please explain
BigJim Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 I'd like one that threads through the tailpiece, then over the top of it. Is there a tailpiece that has grooves to retain the strings in place? I thought I saw something like this on a PRS.
Spectrum13 Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Slate has the only 150 with a onepiece wraptail like what comes on a 137. You would need to drill new bridge holes and plug the existing four to retro fit. Not a do it your self job but can be done.

peteraltongreen Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Did the replacement give you better tone/sustain? Yes.This was the defining replacement that increased sustain, and setting the bar at the correct height. My C140CM now out performs my Guild Bluesbird & Gibson ES335.I don't like wrap over bridges. Here's why.In 1962,I had a Les Paul Junior with a combined bridge-tail piece. At that time,I rested the palm of my hand on the bridge.( See photo below ) The unwound strings would unwind slightly on the wrap over, and I used to tear my hand on the exposed string ends, causing, sometimes, substantial damage to my hand.I had to learn to play at the neck end, which is now where I play mostly.Great for jazz, not so good for some of the pop stuff.I realize it's not the same for everyone else. peteraltongreen Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 That is one fine looking suit. Thanks,Big Jim. Please don't tell the ladies I don't look like Bobby Vee anymore, but I'm a dead ringer for Telly Savalas ! Right, a picture of the Schaller package I photographed, rapidly in my local shop.Bit out of focus, but shows the component parts. Finally, here's the '59 Les Paul Junior, without the early '60's suit ! BigJim Posted November 16, 2010 Author Posted November 16, 2010 Thanks for all the help Pete. I met Bobby Vee at the Surf Ballroom last year, for the 50th Winter Dance Party. Met many of your countrymen, great rock n roll fans.

I loved all that Bobby Vee stuff.I still have,as a prized possession, the vinyl album 'Bobby Vee meets the Crickets',with a great song called 'Someday' on it.He's still very popular with the 'sixties' crowd here in the U.K. Peter Alton Green.
