koula901 Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Well, I plugged in the 535 last night and OMG, the sound is so fantastic, I'm not ever changing out those pups - they sound great; I've found their rock 'n' roll character. Now that I've got two Heritages, the 137 and 535, they both call out to me for different reasons. The strat's been gettin' lonely.

FredZepp Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I've found that a great sounding amp seems to make almost anything sound good ( with a little knob twisting to fine tune ) . Also, working with the set-up can help... like the pickup height ( I don't like 'em too close generally ) pole piece height ( to balance the sound ) or even the string height ( sometimes too close to the fretboard causes the string to mute a bit or reduces the sustain)
NoNameBand Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 My 535 came with Seth Lovers. Its hard to imagine any pup sounding better in the 535.

I've seen crappy guitars played through orange amps and the sound was incredible. NoName, I like the Seths too. Will you be bringing your 535 to PSP IV? I think the 535 is the one that I'll be bringing. It's quickly becoming my favorite.

If the economical gods smile on me this year I would like to order a new H-150CM though I doubt it would be finished by PSP IV. I had my 535 professionally set up and put a set of Pyramid Pure Nickel (9-42) strings on it and it sounds good playing anything from blues, jazz, rock or country. I have a few (15) very nice guitars and I must say, it is clearly my favorite. As Fred said, played through a good tube amp, it smokes.
lolonyc Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Hi, I have a 535 with 1pc mapleneck and split coil toggles with SD (don't know which) pickups. I really don't like the sound of the pick ups... too thin, no nuances... I am considering changing pickups and would like any recommendation for a warmer sound... I didn't say muddy!... Looking for warmth, soul, dynamic... I am thinking of Lollar imperials... has anyone tried these in an H535? Thanks for feedback. L
tbonesullivan Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I have the old standard: Schaller Golden 50's. Can't say I've ever had a problem with them. They sound rich and three dimensional, exactly what a humbucker should sound like.
Gitfiddler Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 After reading this thread I think I'll be swapping out my Phat Cats from my 535 Goldtop and dropping in a set of early 70's Gibson T-Tops I have in another guitar. They sound SO good that it's worth the pain in the arse to change them. The Cats will be saved for future use. In response to lolonyc's request for a possible pickup, I've read so many positive reviews about Duncan Seth Lovers in semi-hollows that they'd be my first choice.

Both guitar have the Schaller Golden 50. I love them. I've got .011 flat wounds on the 535. Just a beautiful tone.
