HI Scott, Welcome, welcome and thrice welcome (feeling medieval English today).

Glad to have you here, I have looked at everything you have posted, all the links etc, and nothing got my back up. I really liked what you did with YOUR OWN (not the property of any one else) H150, I thought you made it look great. I have no problem in saying that I can't stand the headstock on Heritage guitars, and before I actually bought a Heritage (H555) I e mailed the factory and asked them if they would make a guitar with a different headstock for me as I really dislike the present one... How's THAT for blasphemy guys? Needless to say, I never received a reply.

Patrick, I re read your comment in one of the past threads we are discussing here where you said Marv and the guys would probably be offended at what Scott had done to his H150. I know you are a man of forthright opinions and not a shrinking violet, so I feel that I have to say that you were wrong to make that comment, it would have been for the guys at the Zoo to make.

I was really enthusiastic about what you did with your H150 Scott, because it gave you something unique to you,and had your individual stamp on it. And guys, isn't that what being here is about? NOT following the crowds who buy the brand for the sake of it? I would love it if someone could take the headstock on my 555 and do what you have done Scott, it would make my 555 perfect for me personally. I am looking forward to seeing your other guitars and builds and reading your contributions.

For those of my friends here who think I am a heritic, that's ok, you're my on line buddies and I can live with that :occasion14:

My name is Scott Wilkinson. Today is my first day here. I bought my first Heritage H-150 last week and it is my most favorite guitar! I have some experience building guitars (not the greatest, but I do it as a hobby). I hope to be a positive contributor and friend to other proud Heritage owners.

Sincerely, Scott

Hiya Scott,

Welcome to the Heritage verbal battleground.Any opinion is valid, even if it goes against the grain, and there are other manufacturers who are mentioned here.In order to get a balanced view, you have to take account of the competition.I'm lucky. Two Heritages, and I love 'em.I hope they go on forever,so I can buy more later.Keep giving us your opinions & views. We're listening !

Hey Scott.

I guess I missed something! I saw the mods. Very good work. Not that you need my take on it, but, it is your guitar. Have at it!

The headstock thing is a sensitive issue around here. All new posters go down this road. I suppose it is the path to initiation. After awhile, people start to get it, and find, like we do, that the headstock is a badge of honor. ;)

To me, what makes a Heritage a Heritage is not the headstock. It is the way it feels, sounds and inspires. If this Heritage still feels, sounds and inspires like the Heritage is was before the conversion, then it is still a Heritage.

Glad to see you are making an effort to stick around.

I do want to see the finished product. If you don't post the pictures here, shoot me an IM with links.

Hmmmmm. Just spent the better part of 30 minutes reading all 3 threads and all the posts. 30 minutes I'll never get back. :aggressive_mini: Some ... um .... objective observations from my own perspective. Original thread - I only saw one or two replies that had much vehemence in them. Seems nearly all of them started with our usual "Welcome". All mentioned how nice Scotts builds are - heck yeah, they're beautiful. None that I thought were direct attacks; mostly defensive stances on Heritage. Would seem normal, since we are at heart a Heritage forum. We have a couple of outspoken Heritage-ites; we know who they are and we love 'em for it. You won't find a more staunch supportor of Heritage Guitar than my buddy Kuz - he loves them with a passion that many of us will never fully understand. But, back to the posts. I just didn't see any personal attacks against Scott. Questions of why, how could you, is that legal, etc. Perfectly honest reactions and replies. As for Scott going to the MLP, a perfectly natural response. Of course you go home when you feel attacked or slighted. We'd all do that. And except for we all know who, I thought the replies on the MLP were right in line. So ... not really trying to play the devils advocate or peace maker (as if one were needed) or straddling the line, blah blah. Just saying I didn't see where the HOC got all deginerate in response, nor the replies at the MLP. In fact, I was rather surprised to read that anyone thought anyone was being rude, defensive or offensive. Just protective. Gee, no one said a darned thing when we all saw what Gregor did to one of his 150s.

Just to clarify what I said, again...

All I objected to was what Scott said that many of us would get upset. HE began by saying many would get mad about him saying that his guitars are better than Heritage or Gibson. He then clarified that by saying that is what some of his customers say. Heritage guitars have the most experienced Luthiers in the world. The Heritage owners have been making guitars since the late '50s. Scott has been making them for 3 years. He clarified his point, let's move on.

Scott, appropriately, reintroduced himself and I was the FIRST to welcome him there.

I was interested in his work, so I FOLLOWED HIS ADVICE of going to the MY LP forum to see the build. It was there where I saw him post the link to our HOC site with everyone's comments.

I have not once even commented on his customized Heritage.

Don't worry about it John, we know you are one of the nice guys on this planet.

Hey Scott, welcome aboard!

Regarding your other thread . . . I'd say it should stay. For one, I don't think you did anything wrong. I do understand why some have a problem with it, and it's pretty easy to see how it escalated (both here and on the LP forum) where people got mad here, you vented, the LP forum folk vented, the HOC people vented more because of said venting, the LP folk vented coming to your defense, we all blew off some steam, and now we've largely welcomed you in.

As far as the headstock, I think you'll grow to like/love it. As for your H-150 project, I think it's cool if you look at it as a historical sort of recreation of a 50's era guitar. Kind of like taking a Dodge Challenger and reverse-engineering it to be a more classic period-correct looking car, only with the accouterments of a modern version (e.g. power steering, anti-lock brakes, CD/MP3 player, etc., etc.). I also like the finish job. Not that we all have to agree about it, but there are more important things for me to get too riled up about. I'm hoping to get into guitar building (I've got the wood, Benedetto's book on building an Archtop, the "Build Your Own Electric Guitar" book, a couple necks built, and a router, just need to make the time and get the balls to start trying), so I think that is really cool! Love or hate the new headstock, the whole Heritage Refinish Redux is still pretty neat.

Regardless, I hope you stick around. In my experience, this is a great forum with really nice, informative people who will play things pretty straight. Sure, it can be emotional, but that's part of the fun! Anyway, stick around, enjoy yourself!

P.S. Perhaps the moderator could just delete my first thread altogether and we can call this a fresh beginning?

Hey Scott,

Welcome to the biased ranting around Heritage guitars.

You are truly welcome here, I was a member long before purchasing my first Heritage.

It's a fun and vibrant place. :icon_thumright:

Hi Scott, glad to have you aboard. I must confess, when I bought my first Heritage, brand new in 2000, I opened up the case, and said to myself, WTF kind of headstock is THAT! Well, guess what. Everything everybody said about the snakehead (or whatever you wish to call it) headstock is true, it grows on you and you come to love it dearly. It is indeed a badge of honor for the Heritage Guitar Company. BTW, I just bought "Guitar Building for Dummies" at my local Borders Bookstore, and I am hoping one day I can create the art that you creat!

And another, HI SCOTT! I do have to to say that this has really been an intereting thread..... Globally, it's all about passion. Passion for Heritage guitars, passion for guitars in general. We all share that ideal and it's passion that causes our defensiveness and drives the commitmentment to our craft. If we were a group of guitar players without opinion then little would matter and we would not be incined to excel or learn. But, we turn our lives over the muse typically at an early age and music becomes woven into the fibre of our spirit - it's who we are. It also seems that we want to be protective of the craft people who build our Heritage guitars - we care about them. They create and build the vehicle that allows our expression of emotion, feeling and soul. Craftsmanship/hand craftmanship to me equals intimacy and a true extension of the person who built our/my guitar. We also want to protect the integtiey of our Heritage brand, that is repeated throughout this thread. At the same time, our new friend seems to share that same passion for guitar and Heritage - that's easily seen in his own workmanship. So, all of us share passion, love and commitment to the guitar and in that spirit I say welcome Scott. Actually, we are all probably singing the same song and it's all good. Bulldog

Welcome to the club! It's a great group of guys on this forum, and I'm proud to say the HOC has been my homepage for several months now! Most of us own different brands of guitars, as well, but there is no denying we LOVE our Heritages, as is. What you do with yours is CERTAINLY your business. Stick around and get to know us.

What's up Scott? If your skills playing the guitar are anywhere near your skills building guitars...well, you're a whole lot better than I am! Welcome!
