pups in a H550

Just picked up a H550 and was wondering about the pickups.

anyone know what kind are in there?

it's a 2000 model.

Congratulations on the H-550 and welcome aboard.

Mine has SD 59s in it. It's best to pull them while changing strings to find out for sure.

Sometimes they mark them on inside label.

550's come from the factory with either Schallers, HRW's or SDuncans. We need to see your's to be certain what you've got...or getting.

If this is the one that I saw on TGP, it has Schallers.

 

The pic showed two adjustment screws per side which means Schaller or HRW's .

The HRW's would have a white dot on the switch tip, so those are Schaller pickups.

Congrats on your 550. They are some very fine guitars. I thinkk they are the most under rated Heritage guitars out there.

 

Joe's 550 has Schallers in it. Man does that guitar sound good! I think he get's his best tone out of that guitar. He also plays a 58 LP JR, H150, 73 SG and a Rick of some odd 400 type.

Nice plank of wood right there!! Love the finish. Two screws, not dot on the switch tip = Schallers. Very good PAF-ish pickups.

That is a beautiful 550. They really are special and handcrafted at 225 Parsons St.

You are going to love the fat jazz tones 550's have. I have Schallers in mine. No complaints. As stated, these are fairly underrated, maybe even under the radar jazz boxes, but great quality, appearance and most of all...tone.

My H-550 came with Schallers. They are great pups, but didn't quite do the guitar justice in my opinion. I had Schallers in my H-140 as well, so I haven't heard the sd59's or HRW's yet. I changed out the Scahllers in both of my Heritage guitars and was VERY happy with that decision. With the 57 classics, my H-550 runs a little hotter and I have to roll back my volume just a bit to get a great jazz tone. I went in the studio once with a 1965 pro reverb and laid down a solo with the guitar on "10" and the amp volume around "2.5" and when I listen to the recording, there is just a bit too much bite going on...
