NoNameBand Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Hey Mark . . . I didn't know that you have an R6. Does it have a TOM bridge? Or just the wrap around TP? What year is it? Got any pics you can post? It has the TonePros AVRII and the TonePros Aluminum wraparound stop bar tail, Nickel finish.

GuitArtMan Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 I'm I looking wrong or is that bridge on backwards? That's an ABR-1 Bridge - the original tune-o-matic. That's the way they go.
Patrick Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 76 Standard Yeah . . . I agree. I'd be going for a non wrap around standard stop TP on that one too. If it was a gold top, the wrap around might look cool. But, they're cheap enough that you could always order the standard TP and try them both. See which you like the look and sound of better, then sell the other.

It was in Crap looking shape but still very sound body wise. Having it refinished in Honey burst and all new parts applied. It was orig Tobacco Sunburst and it smelled it too. Local 70's rocker rode it hard and put it up wet. Even the tuning keys wouldn't turn. Heavy as hell, should have great sound when finished.

602a Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Really kinda plain, a few decent grains nothing that would be a collection piece. For the cost I'll finish with it will be a good keeper I hope. I'm putting Antiquity's in it and I found some Grover Kluson type tuners for it. The binding has aged very well. I'm having the back and neck lightened up. It was almost walnut colored.
smurph1 Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 This is what I like to do. Screw the tailpiece down tight and top wrap the strings. Great sustain and a shallower break angle for a nice soft feel. I may try that approach..Beautiful guitar by the way!!
smurph1 Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Not to jump too deeply into a subject we've had a number of threads about, including some interesting explanations about the physics, including the impact on tuning stability of top-wrapping, by former contributors (remember Pacer X? Always enjoyed his contributions.) but there is a third alternative --various systems that allow you to raise the tailpiece off the top so that strings clear the bridge, but also firmly anchor the tailpiece to the post and/or top so that the hardware system is as rigid as possible. The tonepro system does this with set screws, but there are also more elaborate systems out there ...such as the Faber Tonelock system. Me ... I keep my tailpieces set so the strings clear the back of the bridge, so that my string length(tuning stability) and break angle (tension) are not increased as would be the case with top wrapping or cranking the tp to the top. If I feel the need for more sustain, I move closer to my amp and allow sympathetic vibration to more than replace any energy I might be losing through slack in the tailpiece system. Though I recognize the physics that argue some advantage to systems like the Faber, I find that the extra money in my wallet from not buying new hardware has a positive effect on my mind/spirit harmonic balance. That's Funny!!(and Very TRUE)

For what it's worth, the plain tops usually don't look so exciting in a lighter color like honey burst. There is a video on You Tube of the kid from that Japanese Led Zeppelin clone band. He's doing an instructional video of the intro, or the ending of "Over The Hills And Far Away" He's playing a plain top LP with a Bourbon Burst. Jimmy something or another his name is. Two thinks really jumped out at me when I saw it. The color of the LP is amazing . . . and he really nails Jimmy Page's tone and technique. I think he's playing out of a Marshall Plexi. If you care to, take a look at that color. If I knew how to link to it I would do that for you. But . . . . .

602a Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 The guitarist is Jimmy Sakurai from the tribute band "Mr. Jimmy" It's already been shot with one coat. It's not really a full honey burst it's kinda a cross between honey burst and ice tea. I saw one awhile back Tim Lawson did for a guy from New Orleans and it Kinda looked like Warren Haynes Sig. I don't think they can ever get the color that close but it's surprising sometimes.
602a Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 This is what I'm shooting for but you never know till it's done.
Patrick Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 This is what I'm shooting for but you never know till it's done. That's not quite as light as I thought it was going to be. If your guitar looks like that when it's done . . . it's going to be fantastic!!! (except, of course, for the reflector knobs )
