BGD IV: The Waiting Game

Over a month ago I sent my Eagle on its fatal voyage. It arrived with a cracked headstock. During its return it was beheaded.

FedEx has responded promptly with its forms, a couple of letters and several phone calls.

Today I submitted the estimated repair cost from Pete Moreno. I await Heritage's similar document from Vince Margol. I'm told that is imminent.

So I wait for Heritage then wait for FedEx and hope for the best.

Pete Moreno has been shipping guitars for his repair shop for 30 years. He has had two breaks as a result. One was a transected headstock on a Kalamazoo made Les Paul. UPS replaced it with a new Nashville Gibson of the same model. The second was a fretboard packaged in a very solid cardboard tube. The UPS truck ran over the tube and broke the contents. They paid for the fretboard.

Both Vince and Pete question whether the Eagle is worth repairing. It would demand almost 100% of its fair market value to reneck and refinish it.

To soothe the pain that no amount of Oxycontin, Vicodin and Lortab can touch, I've ordered a NOS Heritage archtop. But that's another future thread.

Sorry you're going through this crap.

Appropriate painting to illustrate. Van Gogh?

Edvard Munch "The Scream"

A large copy of it hangs over my desk at work. It cracks me up every day.
