Guest HRB853370 Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 The new Gibson GA40RVT was supposed to be delivered Friday, per the FEDEX tracking number. Then for some reason, the date changed to Saturday. Well, with the Toys for Tots Toy run Saturday, I was not going to be here. I was motoring down the road with about 400 bikers with a police escort. I went on their website Friday and had them redired the shipment to a Fedex office location within 10 miles of my house. It was supposed to be there today. Not there! Called Fedex, and it is being held in Forest Park, GA which is their warehouse. WTF! So I apoke to a customer service rep and asked them to deliver to my home. They said it would go out tomorrow from the warehouse and arrive here tomorrow sometime. I sure hope they are correct. This is getting ridiculous!
kbp810 Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Yikes! I know your pain - been down that road a few times before. To make matters worse... our closest Fedex shipping location is about a 30+ minute drive - that makes it a ton of fun when I end up having to go pick it up myself.
Guest HRB853370 Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 It's on the truck and will be here today! Now I just pray for an undamaged amp!
Guest HRB853370 Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Alls well that ends well. I ended up picking it up at the Fedex Office store; for some reason they delivered it there instead of my home. She was very well packed, just like she would have came from the manufacturer. Seller did a fantastic job. Put her through the paces with some blues licks from my Gibby Les Paul Goldtop. The Heritage tryout will be later, I just picked up the nearest guitar out of the case. Triode mode is 50% power, Pentode mode is full power. Reverb is a little on the scant side (I guess compared to my Deluxe reverb, where if you put it on 4 it sounds like a concert hall). This amp, you must turn up to about 6 or better to even start hearing the reverb. The tremolo is smooth, but the speed is very very slow until you get the knob up to around 7 or more. No problem with the depth however. It has an interesting channel layout. Channel 1 is more aggressive and is no reverb, no tremelo, just bass, mid and treble. Channel 2 is a little cleaner, and has reverb and tremolo in addition to the three tone controls. In between the two is a mix input, which blends channel 1 and 2 for more power and allows the reverb and trem to be mixed in. The amp is pretty loud just in Triode mode at 15 watts. I tried switching her to full power, the 30 watt setting and it cranks. I think it would be loud enough for almost any room with that setting on. The old school look is pretty cool too, with the brown and tan tolex. No complaints about the Eminence speaker, I heard no breakup at all. I tnink I am going to like this little amp. Actually, she is much bigger than I expected, the box weight was 62 lbs and with only one 12 inch speaker, I expected a smaller cabinet, but thats ok.
DetroitBlues Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 That is one cool looking amp. Hope sounds as good as it looks!
Guest HRB853370 Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 That is one cool looking amp. Hope sounds as good as it looks! DetroitBlues, not sure which side of the city you are in (I grew on Eastside), but I got the amp from Joes Music in East Detroit (dont they call the city something else now, maybe Eastpoint?) Joe is one of the nicest guys you could meet. He packes this SOB so good, a nuclear bomb couldnt have touched it. Yes it sounds, wonderful. I think I can get some cool tones out of it if I have time to experiment. Go see Joe sometime and tell him I referred you!
Spectrum13 Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Safe and sound! Nice amp Will. What did you plug in first?
