vagabond Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Hi all, last week i became a proud owner of a Heritage Goldtop . Imagine that i was out on the market to get myself a gibson and when i played this guitar i fell in love with it. Loved the vibe loved the sound loved everything. a week has passed and i cant let it of my hand. When i changed strings i took of the bridge and placed it back. The low e string does not go on the p 90 pole but a little bit from the side. do you think that i placed the bridge in a wrong way? help i apreciated. Many thanks in advance. greetings from Greece
H Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Hi Vagabond, welcome to the HOC from another European member Nice guitar! The bridge is a Nashville type and this is on the usual way round. It looks like you need to put a new notch into the saddle for the low E string to line it up with the pickup screw.

The slots in the saddles could be off a bit or have been removed at one point from the bridge and replaced in the wrong order. Shouldn't make all that great of a difference since the pole screw can be adjusted. The pole screw spacings on pups vary, depending on the pup, from what is called modern and vintage spacing. There is also F spacing, but that is usually with FR/Kahler tailpieces and not relevant here.
golferwave Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Hi and welcome to the HOC! Very nice goldtop H-150 P-90. Is the string spacing up and down the fingerboard between the bridge and the nut correct? If so and it plays nice I wouldn't worry too much about the orientation to the pole piece. Enjoy your new Heritage!
Patrick Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 I'm not a guitar tech by any stretch of the imagination. I leave that stuff to the people who make a living at it. But something is bothering me here . . . you stated that the guitar was fine until you changed the strings? Is it possible that the string was not over the pole to begin with?
Patrick Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 After looking at it a little closer, it appears that the bridge P90 was installed about 1/4" too far towards the treble side. The strings are aligned correctly on either side of the fret board . . . so the bridge and the tail piece seems correct. The P90 pick up should have been installed better. It's misaligned. I have to believe it was like that all along and you never noticed it. Did you buy this guitar new?
vagabond Posted December 8, 2010 Author Posted December 8, 2010 first of all thank you very much for the reply. i found out that the saddles are very wrong oriented/ slotted (terribly sorry English is not my native language) and i will contact the guitar store that i purchased it. i checked it and with a proper bridge it will be perfect! imagine that that the low E has 1,2 cm from the a string and then the strings between them has 1 cm spacing aproximately. as for the guitar i purchased it as new and the condition is brand new. I found later through the site that it is a 2006 model. (W01706)I can only assume that it is new old stock as the market in Greece is a little stif lately due to cyberstores. asap i will have any news i will update and i will try to record something as a sample cheers !!!!
SlappyTappy Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 You could also install a Schaller Roller Bridge and adjust the slots left and right to center them above the pickup. (Never thought you'd use that feature, did you!)

(Never thought you'd use that feature, did you!) thanks for the tip i checked the bridge in a cyberstore seems great. And for the quality and the brand it is not expensive. I will contact the store though as it is a new guitar and i believe that it is on warranty.
