MartyGrass Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 FedEx just sent me a check for the broken guitar. This was not an easy process, but it worked. It helped quite a bit that I have photos before shipping and had an investigator at FedEx contacted within hours of the shipment arriving. Also, I provided a detailed narrative of what happened as well as my opinion on the mechanism of damage and why I believed this. I provided ample evidence of fair market value. I also submitted a repair cost estimate. I have learned that many claims are denied, even from large guitar centers. I don't know why. I need to collect my thoughts then sell the pieces. There's a nice case, tuning pegs, fretboard, tailpiece, rosewood bridge, and a beautiful pickguard with tone and volume controls and a Heritage Jazz 3 pup. The strings are new! This reminds me of something in my first grade. A five year old was run over and killed. A grown up talked to us about it. He said that this was a boy who simply tried to cross the street, nothing greater or lesser than that. He never thought he wouldn't make it. This was just a Heritage crossing the country.
Genericmusic Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you.
Assumer Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Sorry about the damage. All the shippers make it almost impossible to get compensation for damage. It is very frustrating.
lifewithasong Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 This was just a Heritage crossing the country. My heart goes out to you. That's a great way to think about it. What kind of tailpiece do you have now to sell? Greg
FredZepp Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 To get a check sounds like some resolution has been reached... hopefully you are relatively happy with the end result. Wouldn't a headstock repair and some touch up get this one playing again? (if only in a repaired state..)
MartyGrass Posted December 10, 2010 Author Posted December 10, 2010 Here are the parts. http://s796.photobucket.com/albums/yy249/mgoetting/Eagle/ I may list them all separately. I'll sort through them this weekend. I appreciate the sympathy. It's a shame it happened but life goes on.

Yes--I still think about that guitar and "what might have been." She was a beauty, and sounded great the few minutes I got to play her, even with the cracked neck. Glad this thing has been resolved for you--at least that FedEx finished their part.

The neck cannot be repaired.
koula901 Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 It's hard to look at those broken parts - kind of like looking at a corpse. I'll be glad for you when all the parts are sold, and you can put this behind you.
