sick1982 Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Hi all, I bought my first Heritage, and I'm really happy about the sound, sustain, playability, ... !! It's a chambered model. If anyone could identify the first letter on my pics, please let me know There is one thing though, although it plays and even intonates perfectly, I think the string spacing at the nut, the high E, is rather awkward... what do you guys think? Should I go back to the store for them to fix the nut? Will they do it under warranty? The spacing at the bridge is a little strange too, although it is evenly spaced, and to me the spacing is perfect, so don't want any changes there, just trying to point out to hear for your thoughts. So here are the picks: http://priv.devbox.be/temp/TheHeritageH150/ Oh yeah, I just ordered a wall hanger which is not recommended for nitro finish, what is the best way to protect it? Wrapping the arms with cotton? Nylon? or?? Thanks for your thoughts!!

Wrapping the arms with cotton? Nylon? or?? Thanks for your thoughts!! OK . . . here ya go . . first off, the letter is an X. Your guitar is a 2007. Regarding the nut; the guitar is at a slight angle in the photo, but it does seem that the 1st string groove is cut too close to the end of the nut. It appears that the is more space between the 1st and 2nd string grooves than the rest. If so, only a new nut can correct that. Regarding the wall hanger, you're already on the right path with that. Just don't hang it on any rubber, vinyl or "surgical tubing" type material. You need to bring it to a competent guitar tech for a new nut, I would go with a bone nut, so he'll advise you on the bridge. By the way, it's a real nice guitar!!

Wrapping the arms with cotton? Nylon? or?? Thanks for your thoughts!! OK so I tried to look at the bridge in the one photo that shows it . . . I keep getting distracted by the grain on the top. Have you even noticed the book matched and counter swirling grain pattern?? I see what you are referencing on the bridge. It appears that there were additional groves cut in the bridge saddles of the 6th and the 5th strings. If the guitar is new, and you are the original owner, then both issues should be covered under warranty. Again . . . really nice guitar. Get those minor issues corrected and enjoy it a long time.
FredZepp Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 WELCOME, Sick1982 Very nice VSB finish H-150CMLW. It's a beauty, so I'm not surprised that you are enjoying it so much....
tbonesullivan Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I think the B string is in the wrong spot. The space between the G and B strings is definitely less than the space between the D and G strings. The E string may be a bit close the the edge, but yeah that nut needs redoin.
MartyGrass Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 These are cheap adjustments. The guitar really looks nice. It sounds like at the worst you need a new nut cut and some bridge inserts.
brentrocks Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Welcome to the HOC. that is a very nice H 150 you have there!!!
squawken Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I've seen at the PRS factory that they put cotton on any hangars or stands that hold nitro guitars just to be safe. So I did too. Can't hurt right?
H Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Fantastic guitar and beautiful figuring in the top. Welcome to the H-150 VSB Club from a member across the Pond
sick1982 Posted December 19, 2010 Author Posted December 19, 2010 Thanks for all responses and nice words! I'll contact the shop next week to arrange a nut replacement for after I was able to enjoy it during my holidays I'll tell them to look at the bridge too, it has no extra gaps and the location of the gaps build up in a constant fashion, so it looks like it was marked and cut like this to compensate either for the setup or something else, all strings are still evenly spaced and the outer strings seems to be positioned correctly, but I'll check for their opinion about it anyway. Thanks to confirm cotton seems to do the trick! I guess I should just avoid anything "petroleum based"? It would be nice to find something that stretches a bit.
smurph1 Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Hi..and welcome to the cult..(I mean club)..Nice guitar, by the way and I agree that a bone nut adds a lot to the tone of a guitar..Especially in the sustain department..Enjoy..
NoNameBand Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 That is sooo beautiful. Congratulations on your bouncing baby VSB 150. Sweeet!
kbp810 Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Welcome to the club! That top looks great, the swirling grain under the flame figure looks fantastic

I'd take it back to the dealer to fix. Wrap the the arms of te wall hanger with cotton, or, I think maybe tape.
FrankS Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Gorgeous guitar. I love VSB and that top is awesome. There are quite a few threads here about nuts on new Heritage guitars that are not cut properly. I had to have have a new one made for mine because the string spacing on the E and A was much wider than the other strings. I had a Graphtech nut installed and never have any tuning problems.

Sounds like a good plan, either that or bone, I'll see what they can do and in which timeframe Do you have a pick of your current nut? I am a bit nervous for the results on the finish.
sick1982 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 It had it's nut job under warranty this week! Thought sharing the results. They told me it was replaced with a bone nut. I'm satisfied with the results, the spacing AND hight is consistent now! Note that the damage at the black paint was there before and the flash makes everything look worse and bigger than it actually is
Guest HRB853370 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Welcome Sick, and that guitar is sick, but in a good way! Glad your nuts, I mean your nut is good now. Enjoy the new Heritage and welcome aboard. This place is addictive.
jjkrause84 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 MY LORD is that a beautiful 150. That wood! I normally can't stand overly traditional "Gibson" finishes (mostly because of SEVERE over-saturation...hence my not wanting a red 535!) but your guitar makes it work!
tulk1 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Now those are some nice pictures of a nut job! Would like to have seen that detail before the fix. Nice that you got it fixed, tho'. And under warranty. Awesome. Love the cardioid polar pattern in the top.
