Would look great next to VSB and Black 157. I wish I didn't have 2 on the way.

What are the differences between mahogany and korina? The only korina I've had is an old firebird. They say it is lighter and has more midrange.

I wish you would only post in one spot. I answered on the other one. I'll do it again here. My Explorer is Korina and sounds like a Dirty strat. It has Duncan 59's and it's still a little bright.

Hey Mark, Where did your new blueburst avatar go??

Wow... This is the first Ed Roman guitar not to get the typical Bash going on!!

To find out the difference in Korina's and Mahoganey the best place to go is http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/Options/WoodDescriptions.aspx

I'm waiting to see if it arrives with a headstock on it. I figured its bad luck to show it now. Kinda like seeing a bride in her dress before the ceremony.

Whatever.

Did you buy the one that was Tarnish Debated?

I agree with you that it is nickel that needs a little care. It is not intentionally "aged".

I'll know soon enough.

This is risky because someone here may buy this. But here goes.

The top is not bookmatched optimally. It's beautiful but not symmetric, especially under the strings. I have to take a point off for that.

It's a very nice looking guitar anyway.

From the Warmouth website:

Korina, Black (Terminalia superba):

Black Korina is usually a medium weight wood, but we occasionally get light weight pieces. It features a very handsome olive color with black streaking. Korina has a naturally waxy feel to it. Oil finishes work well on this wood. The tone is very similar to Mahogany with added mids. An excellent tonal choice for hollow chambered bodies!

Korina, White (Terminalia superba):

White Korina is a medium to heavy weight wood Korina has a naturally waxy feel to it. The tone is very similar to Mahogany with added mids. An excellent tonal choice for hollow chambered bodies. With a Vintage Tint Gloss on it, it resembles the famous Korina Flying Vs of the late 50s.

A lot of the homebuilders like Korina/Limba a lot. It seems to be a hit-or-miss thing. On the bright side, it's apparently a bit brighter and more articulate than Mahogany, plus from what I hear it's a dream to work with from a builder's perspective. On the other hand, it's not quite as warm or thick, a bit rarer (although depends on what kind of Mahogany we're talking). Plus, for better or worse, it is noted as a bit heavier in the mids. I've read some people absolutely love it, some hate it or at least find they don't bond to it like they would Mahogany even though the differences seem pretty subtle and can depend on the species or piece of wood from Mahogany, Black Korina, or White Korina.

That said, I've never had a Korina guitar, so Korina/Limba lovers correct me if I'm wrong. Talking to people that have Limba guitars, I got the impression Mahogany was tonally more my thing with my love of bassier, rounder tonally sounding instruments. I'm sure it makes a nice guitar, and for some purposes Korina (kind of like Koa I'd imagine) could be a better fit and maybe cut through a bit better in a band situation. For me though, at least on paper, Mahogany is more in line with the sound and tonal range I tend to like the most. For somebody who wanted (arguably) maybe a bit more clarity, mid-range, maybe a bit more top-end for leads or whatnot, or just something a bit different, that might be perfect.

I have heard from a few Korina guitar owners that the SD '59's neck & bridge are the right pups for Korina. Thats what they say...

They're pretty darned good on a H157. Maybe the ebony board causes a similar brightness to korina.

THE TOP IS PERFECTLY BOOKMATCHED....may not be perfect in the symetry dept but it is the woods fingerprint.

Hate to say this Mark.... there are some people that are hot on the guitar already, the question is how deep is someones pockets are?? then theres always the bottomless Dr Evil's pockets?? LOL

The BlackBacks are a high gain pickup.... not vintage 59er material!

This would be a great time for Brent to chime in... I sold him a Bridge blackback he put in his 20th anniversary. He can comment on the tonal quality.

You said it better.

I personally like the look of an indistinct midline. That could not be achieved with this wood. The pin striping, color and flame are outstanding.

I've not used those pups. However I do have two guitars with hot pickups. They work well for me with the pups lowered- a very nice clean sound.

This H150 has stirred up guitar lust in a few bidders. I can see why. If only it was purple.

This seller has used a few tricks in the photo area, the color does not pop that much! But I know their is alot of grain you are not seeing... however on my HD monitor I can see the bucklerash details near the toggle cavity!

I will try to get an accurate finish photo from on eof mine to give better prospective.

Seems like these might be yours, but I could be confused.
