H Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Now further contoured along the top edge, drilled, and dyed Looking good, Mark, but what I'd like to know is what you did with that hairbrush
mars_hall Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 Looking good, Mark, but what I'd like to know is what you did with that hairbrush You know I have been wondering the same thing. It's the one I use to brush Ian's hair with every night when he comes upstairs for me to dress after his mom gives him a shower. I haven't seen it in a couple of days, though I have noticed he's started waxing his hair in the middle and pointing it straight up. What's up with that?
602a Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 So here's where I'm at in my 1st attempt at H150 pickguard making. This is raw fresh-sanded maple I purposely cut out of the least figured area of my mandolin back stock. I wanted to progress towards the better wood in future attempts. How many screws to hold the hairbrush?
mars_hall Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 How many screws to hold the hairbrush? Maybe two, but it depends. I've started on my second pickguard and dyed the backside first to get an idea how it would turn out after the carve and shaping... I will probably do a truss rod cover in this color as well and place them both on my Black Beauty.

Interesting concept.. matching flamed maple TRC and pickguard in contrasting color to a black beauty. It'll be cool to see, it's a bit hard to visualize.. and I keep thinking of color options.
Guest HRB853370 Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Hi Everyone! I want to mount a G***** lookalike pickguard on my H150. I have the original Heritage pickguard installed so far. I ordered a nice vintage looking pickguard but it doesn't fit at all. I don't want to drill extra holes in my H150. Has anybody a solution to this problem? Or does anyone know where to get a pickguard without the holes predrilled? Thanks for your help! Guido What about no pickguard at all? I think the pickguard partially removes the beauty of the top!

peerless Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 About 10 years ago when I got my first 150 I wanted to trick it out like a Gibson as much as possible. Over the years I have come to respect the Heritage artistic appointments. Who needs the extra plastic ring. Even the original Heritage hardware that has now been phased out by TOne Pros sounds good. I do prefer the original TP though. But if your into metal that original Heritage TP sounds great. I was a fan of the Gibson headstock and I agreed with many that the Heritage headstock was unattractive. Now I love the Heritage headstock. Most people do not know this but I think the Heritage headstock is designed after the original Gibson headstock.. When I worked in a vintage music store old acoustic Gibsons would come in from time to time with a headstock just like the Heritage and it would have written "The Gibson" in virtually the same script or basic style as "THe Heritage" appears on Heritage guitars. Very interesting. The headstocks and logos were the same. There was more going on with Heritage's design or decision to use that Headstock than we realized. Sorry to digress but I know we are talking about pickguards here. I really like the Heritage pickguard more than the Gibson. Its much more ascetically pleasing with all the curves. Gibson appointments belong on Gibbys and be proud of your Heritage and its own appointments. The other day we were doing a routine bone nut change to a Gibson VOS 59. Took the plastic nut off and the fret board practically fell off the guitar. It was not glued on! Would not believe it if not had seen it with my own eyes. This is a $5,500 guitar. I figured at least the urber expensive Gibby stuff wold be up to par. I thought Gibson had changed a little for at least the models only very well off people can afford. I was wrong.
