As per my earlier posts, in the summer I picked up a Heritage H-150P in red for a bargain.

The guitar came with screwed up Duncans.

I currently have a pair of Booteek humbuckers in it and it sounds OK but not magical.

What pickups do you guys like in a H-150P?

I remember you getting that... what was wrong with the Duncans in it?

What kind of music are you playing and what tone are you looking for?

What don't you like about the pickups in there... what change do you desire...?

The Duncans had the baseplates screwed up where they were like 8-32 tapped.

The current pickups are a 7.5K/9.0K handwound set. They are OK but nothing special.

If I get them adjusted where they sound good clean, the distorted sounds are not great.

Jack them up to where the distortion tones are what I want, the clean sounds are not good....

Interesting...

Of the pickups that I have , I like the Duncan "59's for being versatile.. able to do about anything. Everything else that I have falls into a more vintage and open category or.... more hot and compressed.

What you are describing is a lot of what I expect the amp to do... you know, clean up the sound when the guitar volume is turned down or bring out the more rock and higher gain sounds when that is kicked in...

Usually I can get the pickups adjusted at some sort of sweet spot.

Maybe I asked for the wrong set....

I generally use a amp that is pretty much a deluxe reverb with a EL34 power section.

Pedals add the overdrive.

I tried a pearly gates for a while and like it except it was a little too shrill on high notes.

Maybe I'll reinstall it with a nickel cover to tone down the high end...

I have covers on my Les Pauls with Pearly Gates and it helps with the highs. My Heritages all have the covers off and they do get bright but that's why I leave them off. Total different sounds from same pup.
