dharv53 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Good Morning, You were all very helpful with my "Heritage for the Blues" question. Now, I am looking at used 555 ($1999 OBO) and H535 ($1699) lefties and wondering about price. Both are near-mint and the 555 is custom in that it was ordered with "gold" hardware. Any advice? Thanks.
barrymclark Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I thought the 555 came with gold hardware standard.
cod65 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 That 555 is sweet. It's a lot of money , but it's a real gem and rarity in lefty. Don't recall seeing a used one on eBay ever
cod65 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 The 535 also is a bit much, but on the other hand a new one is prolly at least 2000-2500$ and there's just nit to many 535 lefties on eBay . .... maybe 1 or 2 per yr ?

For used guitars they seem a little high. I got a used lefty 1996 535 in Sunset Burst for just under 1k one year ago. Bought a brand new one for just under 2k from a Heritage dealer in Florida in late 2007. I had the hardware and pickups replaced on the '96 one, you may need to factor that in if necessary. The 2007 model is stock with Duncan '59s, the '96 now has Duncan P-Rails. Lefty Heritage are relatively rare though, 555s' more so than 535s'. Having said that there have been a couple lately on Craigslist and Ebay, there's even a nice 575 at the moment, if again in my opinion slightly over priced. pics ... Sunset Burst '96 with P-Rails Golden Amber '07 with '59s Another point to note is the neck carve, the older models tend to have slimmer necks and the newer ones generally have a chunkier feel. That may be important to you, I guess I'm fairly lucky in that I play any size neck and it doesn't bother me, for some guys an overly large or small neck would be a deal breaker. As mentioned in another post the Prospect Standard is another great alternative. Mine is a 2001 model in Antique Burst, got that one for about 1k two years ago, had the pickups changed to Duncan Seth Lovers. The neck on this one is the smallest of all my Heritage guitars. Hope this helps. btw I didn't realise from your other posts that you play lefty, I thought you were a lefty playing righty. Paul

Hmmm Hendrix should have gotten one of those, what an idea... On another note, Very nice Sunset Burst, very nice indeed.
koula901 Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 dharv53 A couple months ago, I bought a used H 535, custom with gold hardware, from a guy on Craig's list for $1400. That seemed a fair price to me, especially since he'd ordered it custom, and it is in mint condition. You can also check out Jerry's Lefty guitars website on the internet.
GuitArtMan Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I thought the 555 came with gold hardware standard. That was going to be my response. I really haven't kept up with the used prices on 535s/555s, but about two years back I sold two spectacular 535s, and felt like I was giving them away, only to see lesser instruments go for more a few months later. I think a lot of it is timing - what are you looking for, is one (or more) available at them time. You may (or may not) have to pay a premium because it's a lefty; these will be rarer but there is a smaller market for them. I was negotiating with the seller on this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=280609630759&si=fJVvTEME1lIp8wesuZyLFXTztRg%253D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT#ht_2354wt_1141 I thought the auction price was high, and he said he had an offer of $2250 plus shipping. I told him to take it as that was more than I would offer. I can only assume he did as the he stopped the auction a few hours later.
dharv53 Posted January 3, 2011 Author Posted January 3, 2011 Thanks for all the help everyone! Yes, Southpaw Guy, I am cursed. I tried to learn to play rh when I started playing a year ago, but I couldn't get it. Lefty just felt natural and I decided to go with it. (I did have a guitar shop employee look at me like I was an alien when I asked if they had any lh guitars in stock. His comment was, "They don't make left-hand pianos, learn to play right handed"). Needless to say, I'll never go back there again.

I prefer to stay away from "chunkier" necks due to a bad thumb joint.
SouthpawGuy Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Paul, When you say the "older models", can you tell me how old? I prefer to stay away from "chunkier" necks due to a bad thumb joint. The largest neck of all of my Heritages is the '07 535, smallest is the '01 Prospect. The '86 170 solid body is lightly bigger than the Prospects. All of the test are somewhere in between. The '07 535 is my newest Heritage, the general consensus is that the more recent models are more generous. Maybe some other members would like to comment on this ? Brent has probably played as many Heritages as half of the entire HOC membership ..... !

At this point I was playing 20 years or so. Never set foot in the place since. This lefty has a very long memory !
Guest HRB853370 Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Maybe I'd play better if I converted to lefty! I am ambidextrous on the drumkit!
SouthpawGuy Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Maybe I'd play better if I converted to lefty! I am ambidextrous on the drumkit! What .. you mean you can play the drums with both hands ? ... at the same time ? !
