sfss Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I was wondering if I bought a used heritage guitar and wanted to have some work done on it, does Heritage work on their own guitars and like doing it. Or are you better off finding someone qualified local to work on it, which might be tougher here. I know they now have some nice pickups and who knows what else you might run into buying a used outfit. Maybe they don't have time to fool with that kind of work or maybe they don't want anyone else working on their guitars, didn't know. I heard they have some fancy way of setting up guitars now but didn't know if that was true or not ( pleck) or something. Sounded funny since they build them the old ways which still seem to be the best ways in most of the things you seem to find in life. Anyway let me know you thoughts on how they are with repair/upgrades and how long it takes to get your outfit back from experience. I think i may have my other one sold (2005 Gibson - mistake- )so I am going to be looking.
mars_hall Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Not that they wouldn't do certain things, but due to timing and expense you may be better off finding a local guy to do mods. If it's a solid body and all you are doing is swapping electronics, most people can handle that task if they pay attention to detail and follow instructions. There isn't that much going on. With semi-hollow and hollows, the task becomes a bit trickier, but that is really just becoming handy with fishing tools to bring the parts into their holes once soldered. Mechanically, not too many things go wrong other than normal wear. Setup is something anyone can do and there are many sources for information, including here, detailing just what to do.
Genericmusic Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Depending on where you live I can recommend two fine luthiers that have worked for both Gibson and Heritage and both live short distances form Heritage. Pete Moreno, 269-372-1126 Aaron Cowles, Vicksburg, MI I don't know Aaron's address or phone #. I sure you could get it from one of the other HOC members. I personally use Pete for 90% of my guitar work. Both are very fine craftsman.
