Tamayo Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 At least for my liking. The 535 sounds great but could sound more precise. I'm definitely leaning toward Lollars P90s. I just love the clarity of a single coil and sweet feel of every note you produce. A nice overdrive and high gain coming from my Orange sends me to guitar heaven.
jjkrause84 Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I know the feeling....the bridge pup in my 535 is too hot for my tastes.
tbonesullivan Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 have you tried lowering the pickups a bit? that can lower the output, as well as change the timbre.
Tamayo Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 have you tried lowering the pickups a bit? that can lower the output, as well as change the timbre. Indeed I have. I may a bit more but those P90s are something else. Right up my alley!
MartyGrass Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Sounds like you should raise your pickups. Raise them right out of the holes and put P-90s in. Or Phat Cats. Another thing to try is to take off the pup cover. They say that brightens the tonal range. Gold is supposed to have a greater effect than nickel, according to Seth Lover. You could also check out P-Rails.

Now I was just reading about Dimarzios bluesbucker that has the same qualities as a P90 but cancels the hum and is in humbucker form. Anyone know about those? In a short while I'll be jammin' the P90 tone all across the stage!

BIG fan of P-90's (have a P-90 Super Eagle, and P-90's in a 150 and a 576), but the low wind ( 7.8, bridge, 6.8, neck) Tom Short Marc Ford Tombuckers in my 20th Anniversary 150 sound fabulous!
smurph1 Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 have you tried lowering the pickups a bit? that can lower the output, as well as change the timbre. that's a good idea (IMHO) Also as a suggestion, Gibbon makes what is called a P-100..It looks just like a P-90, has similar tone but is a Humbucker in disguise..sneaky huh?
