Schwantz Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Hi ! I would like to have your feed back about Seth LOver Pick up vs Golden Age Parson street Pick up. I just bought an H157 with Set Lover Pick up ( i don't receive it yet, i will receive it Thursday) and i on my way to buy an other H157 with Golden Age pick up ( The one that come stock, i figure it is Parson streets). My 1st question is do those pick up sound different, or they are pretty similar ? 2nd i read that both of them are not potted, are they very prone to Feedback and squeal ? most of my amp are Hight gain ( i know i can back it up but) i whant to use them mainly for classic and hard rock. Is it possible with those pick up ? If you have played both, please give me your tought on it Thank you

Seth are very good and have a microphonic ring to them that is equivalent to a high frequency distortion. It is caused by being unpotted and is caused mainly by the vibration of the cover against the bobbins. The two pickups sound different and unless you are close to the speakers you probably will not get the squeal unless you are trying. If you get too much you can put a piece of felt between the cover and the ring to damp it. To get an idea of what they sound like listen to Brent's recordings. He had played them all.
Millennium Maestro Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Golden Age Humbuckers Inspired by legendary pickups of the '50s. For authentic warm classic tone, Golden Age humbuckers feature Alnico 5 magnets and AWG42 coil wire as used in the originals, plus wax-potted coils for microphonic suppression. The output wire is 4-conductor plus ground, allowing versatile custom coil-tapping, series/parallel, and phase switching options to expand your sound. Wiring diagrams and vintage dimensions make installation in most humbucker-equipped guitars easy. Golden Age Overwound Humbuckers The HOT versions of our classic Golden Age Humbuckers! The same Alnico 5 magnets, but overwound with AWG43 coil wire to 12K ohms for high output, powerful midrange and driving tone.
