peteraltongreen Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 I had my pal round yesterday, and he brought his 555 with him.I whipped out my 140 & 575,and photographed the result. We're not seeing many Heritages in the U.K. at the moment, which is a shame.Someone showed me a new Gibson Les Paul today, and quite frankly,it wasn't very good.Finish flaws, fret ends, and not a good set up,plus high price seems like a recipe for disaster to me.There's a great opportunity for Heritage here in the U.K..Come & get it !
FredZepp Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 There are some sweet Heritages to play there..... As far as the new Les Paul that you checked out, it is just that Gibson is mass producing them so fast... I'd seen estimates of their production numbers, but can't find a number of guitars that is for sure.

Well,I'd say the same thing for the rest of Europe,Gibbies are everywhere, but their quality seems not to be the same and the prices are really high! A great chance for Heritage quality!
Spectrum13 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Yo, On this side of the pond the 140, 555 & 575 would be sitting on the sofa and you guys on the floor! Strange customs you have.

Assumer Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Great looking Trio. Sorry to hear about the rarity in the UK.
bobmeyrick Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Heritages do crop up on eBay UK from time to time, and there's a rather nice 535 on there at the moment, with only a few hours to go as I type this. The current bid is 750 ukp - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320650268757&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1156 . If I didn't already have one very similar I'd be bidding. The pickups have been replaced with Bareknuckle Stormy Mondays (which have an excellent reputation).
mark555 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Visiting Peter's home is always a pleasure. He has excellent taste in guitars and is an excellent player. A true gent, and excellent company.
bobmeyrick Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 In the latest "Jazz UK" magazine there's a news item about Deirdre Cartwright and Kathy Dyson's new CD "Remembering Emily" (a tribute to Emily Remler). In the accompanying photograph Deirdre's guitar has that distinctive headstock... I emailed her and she confirmed that it's a Super Eagle, which she describes as a lovely guitar.
mark555 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I think at the minute there is only one store selling Heritage guitars in the UK, which is High End Guitars in Nottingham, as mentioned by Bobmeyrick. But they are very expensive from there. As fewer are getting over here, the ones which are on the used market are being bought by those people who know what they are (for example Peter and myself) and we are not letting them go, so the end result is that they are becoming harder to find.
Hfan Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Thats a great picture. Maybe we should form local chapters of the HOC for get togethers etc. Peter, you have the fingers I should have been born with, long and thin it looks like. Over the years mine have gotten wider and I could swear shorter. Beautiful guitars as well. Where are the pints hidden??
H Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Jam Guitars in Bristol sometimes has Heritage guitars in stock and is currently advertising an H-150. I keep my eye out on eBay UK and various European countries, just in case something nice turns up. My H-170 came from eBay Germany. Still cheaper and a safer bet than buying a Gibson at a distance IMHO.

Have you got Craigs List or comparable across the pond?
H Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I've used eBay USA for some guitar purchases but shipping is a huge variable and British Customs Duty and VAT (sales tax) of 20% on the item price PLUS shipping/packaging costs (yes, really!!) add a big chunk onto the price. The right guitar at a decent dollar price can still be a bargain over here even with the extras added on. My recent H-150 purchase through the HOC was definitely in that bracket!

My hands are not really that big,nor my fingers long.I am blessed with slim fingers. It could be because of the 54 years guitar playing, they've become accustomed to the work I want them to do.Just for fun,I've included a photo of my Left hand, plus a 6" ruler, plus all the wrinkles & liver spots of a 66 year old ! I did have a lesson off Johnny Smith about 7 years ago,and he said that if you hold your guitar in the correct position, the spread of you fingers is maximized.I can usually spread 5 frets reasonably easily. Now,my pints are in the refigerator.I love a nice beer, and along with British beer,I usually have some Berliner Kindle,my fav. German beer, and some Peroni,my fav,Italian beer.I also like Crabbies Alcoholic Beer, most wines & a drop of Port or Madeira wine ! I never drink to excess, and never on a gig !My pal Mark doesn't drink, not even tea or coffee. Now,the Jersey coastline..Are you near Ships Bottom or Seaside Heights ? I love it there. Peter Alton Green Hi Peter, The original photo made them look longer I suppose. Thanks for adding several more beers to my "must sample" lis". I am just a little north of Seaside Heights, closer to Pt. Pleasant. We do bring our young kids to the boardwalk at Seaside. In my younger days I did frequent the clubs there and in Ship Bottom (Long Beach Island). If you or Mark ever get out this way look me up.

These guitars are a nice range and at GREAT prices! I'm tempted by the OSB 535 here. No need for help with translation - I have family in Varese and my wife is fluent in Italian
glaister Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Hello all! Got to say I`ve seen quite a few Heritage guitars here in the UK,not new though! Most seem to be 535`s and jazzers.Played an Eagle not so long ago belonging to a friend.I`ve posted before about my H170,only seen one other on Evilbay which the seller said attracted very little interest! Seems most people don`t appreciate them here and go for Gibson 99% of the time.Sad but predictable! Thanks.

Hi Hfan, I have to admit that my fingers do look a bit like spiders crawling on the fingerboard when in use !I just checked them in a mirror.I did a show today in a college theatre for other fellow musicians, with bass & drums. The idea was to show students what music of the 50's & 60's was like. The bass player narrated, and I had to come up with the right chords & melodies for various tunes.A lot of fun,and I think we got away with it ! I loved Seaside heights when I visited, some years ago.The Jersey coast is very pleasant, and the weather was good ( Sept time ) I also got down to Atlantic City & Philly too. Thanks for the offer. Now,where's my 575 ? Peter Alton Green
glaister Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 As an aside,Highend guitars are on the exhibitors list at Birmingham Guitar Show later this month.Listed as Heritage Guitars.
