Guest HRB853370 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Somebody told me when they created this thing called a Millie (which I still don't understand what the heck it is, other than a Heritage), they needed a name, and somebody's wife, girlfriend, or mother's name was Mildred, so the name was shortened to Millie and it stuck. Any truth to that story, anybody?

tulk1 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 "Somebody" must be pulling your leg. "Millie" is short for Millenium. And! the HoC is responsible for the "Millie" nom de plum. The first few times we'd mention our "Millies" to the boys, they'd get these funny looks and go "what?" So, yeah ... Mildred -------- not!

Or was that when they were introduced?? Why would I want a Mildred?
tulk1 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 But certainly NOT Millenium! Or was that when they were introduced?? Why would I want a Mildred? They were introduced in 1999, I believe. And in full production in 2000. Here's a screen capture from the old website. Or you can try the wayback machine and see the old pages.

Maybe it has to do with the G&L Phyllis, which might make it a case of "Phyllis envy."

FredZepp Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I've heard that back in the 50's , they used wood pulp in guitar building a lot. But one company got the idea to make a premium guitar using less pulp. They made it of solid woods and called it the Less Pulp... but the marketing people said that the name was confusing people that are unfamiliar with wood pulp. So they changed the name to Les Paul to be more marketable... and that's how it got it's name....
Connor Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I think that the identifying characteristic of a Millie (Millenium) is that the body is chambered. My H-155 Millie does not have the F holes. It looks similar to a H-157. It's lighter, and some say it has more resonance. It's a very comfortable guitar to play, because of the light weight.
