Super Saturday

My Super Reverb has been in the shop or a couple of months. I had a blown speaker and a set of 4 speakers to replace them, needed my master volume fixed, hum balance replaced, tube springs installed. I have never been a huge fender amp fan. I don't really like the way they break up and seem to only be best at cleans. This is still basickly true here but MAN, I have never heard another amp with that much headroom. And the fender clean is pretty sweet. The speakers are THD old stock blow outs that I got for christmas two years ago. You may remember where you could buy 4 for $80 or something like that. anyway, they are great sounding speakers. It's nice to hear this amp sound the way it should. I have never heard better reverb. EVER.

Excellent, Mike. I really love the sound a cranked Super puts out... Derek Trucks w/his SG or Coco Montoya w/his strat-like guit make them just sing. Don't get into higher gain sounds, but clean to that edge of breakup - oh YEH! You got a killer deal on the speakers, too. Enjoy!

Glad the replacements worked well for you, Mike. You GOTTA love Fender Cleans and Reverb. I'll add that, after the "fritz mod" to my Deluxe Reverb Reissue, it breaks up quite well, especially with pedals. Not so much before. Here are both "Fritz" mods;" I've only done the first, and it was well worth it. I didn't even realize he had another until I went looking for the first one just now.

Mod 2: Bass "Deflubb."

I would bet something similar could be done to the Super Reverb; This guy is easily approachable, and it might be worth an email to ask if he knows if it could be done. Again, Congrats on the overhaul of your amp!

I have a late 60,s super that is original as it can be. I had the speakers replaced with fender replacements and a couple caps replaced, no loss. Mine starts breaking up at around 6 when plugged into the high sensitivity input jack. At anything approaching outdoor volume the breakup is unreal though very sweet. I wonder why yours is so clean.

Mikenov,

I don't like the way they break up, either. I've heard a clean that I think is as good: Carr Rambler! And, it doesn't break up *at all* - even dimed. That might be an issue for some, or not.

It wouldn't be an issue for me..I'd just put a Tube Screamer in front of it.. :biggrin_mini:

smurph,

just curious, because I don't have a tube screamer. isn't that a boost - essentially increasing the volume of the amp till it breaks up?
