eljay Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 was friday, technically, but with cleaning the house for a super bowl gig, did not have time for much playing, let alone photos . . . here is new amp with sophie the irish setter: and here are h530, new amp, and sophie i've dimed it already, of course, but have not gotten too much breakup, so far. i'll attribute that to brand new (ceramic) speaker. it's a cute little rascal, anyway. thank you for looking, eljay
NoNameBand Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Cool. That's a nice power plant for the house.
smurph1 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Cool..Vintage pickups into a Vintage amp..Nice!!
fxdx99 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Very cool. I've looked at those Vintage47s a few times. Still may pull the trigger some day. Surprised you're not getting a ton of breakup as that circuit shouldn't be able to handle a humbucker or P90 signal with saturating both pre and power amp. Especially like Sophie's expression in the first pic ("oh great, he gets another of those boxes that hurt my ears and I didn't even get a new bone") - wonderful looking puppy!
Gitfiddler Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Sophie is SO CUTE!! I had an Irish Setter as a child. Murphy used to follow me to school on occassion, and sleep in the back of my first grade classroom...looking as forelorn and cute as Sophie. Oh, and your new 5 watter is also very cute. Does it have an extension speaker out?
TalismanRich Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Nice amp. I like the tweed that Vintage 47 uses. It surprising to hear that you aren't getting much breakup. My 12 watt Valco gets breakup pretty easily with a humbucker. Part of that may be the old field coil speaker. No way that I can change out the speaker easily to try different ones. Does that one have a Weber speaker in it?
brentrocks Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 the dog is like ...dude, another piece of gear? cool amp!
big bob Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 That is one perty amp you got there eljay.. Hows about some clips..
Patrick Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 the dog is like ...dude, another piece of gear? cool amp! Holy shit Brent!! That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. Especially in the first pic where he seems to be rolling his eyes LMOA!!
Hfan Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Sophie is cute, looks like a good dog. I had a mini Foxhund named Sophie who passed a few years back. She was small but dominated my two big labs and every other large dog on our cul de sac. That amp is beautiful looks like a work of art just sitting there. Checked out their site nice stuff, do they do reverb?

rjsanders Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 it's a beauty. what kind of tubes are in it?
FredZepp Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Those are great pics with the dog ! .. Cool amp , it seems like it'd do some warm clean tones and also take a pedal to overdrive it very well.
eljay Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 it's a beauty. what kind of tubes are in it? JJs, i believe. i know they get HOT 'cause i brushed one with my pinkie turning the @#$% thing off !
rjsanders Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 JJs, i believe. i know they get HOT 'cause i brushed one with my pinkie turning the @#$% thing off ! no, i meant like a 6v6 for power + 6SL7 or 6SN7 preamp? or other? i see he uses octal tubes, but not which ones. a higher-gain preamp tube might make it gainier for you, if you want...
TalismanRich Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 It looks like he has the Comet which would run a 5Y3 Rectifier, 6SL7GT preamp and 6V6GT power tube. Valcos are generally very simple circuits. This is from a '48 Supro, probably similar to Eljay's.
Kuz Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Those Vintage47 amps are the coolest amps I have seen in a LONG time. I really, really, want one.... but can't for a while.
212Mavguy Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Want dirt? Use a clean boost maker between the git and V1. And Oh...hold onto yer butt and offer Sophie to go outside... Peace.
212Mavguy Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Want dirt? Louder and dirt? Use a clean boost maker between the git and V1. And Oh...hold onto yer butt and offer Sophie to go outside... Peace.
