zguitar71 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I have a Super Eeagle I bought from Wolfe Guitars in 2000. When I bought it I was aware of the wrong label (Golden Eagle label) being in the guitar l but it really did not bother me. I was wondering if other people have Heritages with the wrong label from the factory?
Patrick Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I have a Super Eeagle I bought from Wolfe Guitars in 2000. When I bought it I was aware of the wrong label (Golden Eagle label) being in the guitar l but it really did not bother me. I was wondering if other people have Heritages with the wrong label from the factory? Could you please post some pictures of the whole guitar? You leave it up to our assumptions that you do in fact have a Super Eagle. What are you basing your assessment of the model upon? The only differences between a Super Eagle and a Golden Eagle are the following; SE.. 18" lower bout GE 17" lower bout; SE . . split block finger board inlays. GE . . cloud finger board inlays; SE & GE have distinctive and distinctively different pick guards. But, here's my point; I just ordered a Golden Eagle with split block inlays and a 17.5" lower bout width. The pick guard is a Heritage Johnny Smith style. So then, do I have a baby Super eagle? Or do I have an over sized Golden Eagle with split block inlays. The label on the inside says Golden Eagle . . because that's what I ordered it as. I would have to assume that if there was a labeling discrepancy, Jay Wolfe would have picked it up and said as much to you. Either way, you have certainly peeked my curiosity. Let's see some pictures. Also, is there an eagle inlaid on the back of the head stock? From the year 2000, a Golden eagle would have one, but a Super Eagle would not.
Patrick Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Here is a great pic of it... Yep. . . that lower bout sure does look big enough to be a Super Eagle. I'd love to see the rest of the guitar . . . just because I love the big arch tops so much. I'd bet that the back and rims have some pretty good flame and character to them.
tulk1 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Yeah, that's not, unfortunately, all that uncommon. We've had threads on this before. Pre-fire guitars can be very interesting at times. My '99 Prospect had no label at all.
zguitar71 Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Hey thanks for posting that picture FredZepp! I will post more but I will have to resize them, they are all too big so I get denied. Patrick, when I bought it from Jay Wolfe he told me that it was mislabeled, that was the first thing he said to me. I do have a picture with a tape measure across the lower bought and it clearly reads 18 inches. I can post it later today, I'm at work right now and do not have acess to my pictures. The wood is quite curly too, it has an upgrade called the "Ultra" wood upgrade. The maple on the back is very straight grained quarter swan, with very long tight curls and visable ray cells in some areas. The neck and sides are equally curly too. I don't get the SE out as much as I should, this thread has breathed some life back into the guitar for me. I played it most of the night last night and I think I might take it to my next gig.

I'll look forward to seeing the photos. As you probably know, Heritage has taken some of the small, no charge, extras out of the larger (GE & SE) jazz boxes, rather that raise the prices. The bird inlays on the bridge base have been done away with and the neck binding is now one less layer of black/white than before. Yours from year 2000 would still have the extras, as I see on your bridge base. The photo isn't clear enough for me to see if you have the full compliment of binding on the finger board, but, I would imagine that you do. The pick guard on yours is typical of a Jay Wolfe spec'd guitar. It looks great on there!! Are you pups DiMarzios or Duncans?
zguitar71 Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 I have the Seth Lover Pick-ups. I like them enough that I am going to get some for my ES347 but I think I am going to wire it more like a Paul Reed Smith or at least have the pick-ups function like a PRS but using something other than a rotery knob, not a big fan.
zguitar71 Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 Well here are some photos of the SE. The straight grain, curl and ray cells can be seen here. Here is the binding on the neck/head and body. Here are all 6 of my guitars.
