Kuz Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Yeah .... ain't none of my drill bits going near this one, Mr. bob!!. Not like the Kentucky you helped me with. Funny you should bring up it up, tho'. Turns out Taylor guitars pre-drills all their guitars end pins for jacks. Just in case. How thoughtful of them. As I'll be installing a Schatten internal pickup in that guitar. But the Heritage, well, maybe if I could talk the factory into installing something. But I'm not doing it. Hey! Maybe Aaron C. would do it for me. Promise me NO HOLES!!!!!! HOLES IN ACOUSTIC INSTRUMENTS SUCK!!!!!! I am not a huge Taylor acoustic fan, but even still to see those beautiful guitars with a hole the size of playing card whacked out of the side rim !!!??????? Two words.... OUTBOARD PREAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doug Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Aaron Cowles builds Jubal Guitars (ask Patrick about his) and Mandolins. Highly praised within the folk music genre` for his uber cool mandos. And word is he built these. Aaron still runs Aaron's music in Vicksburg Mi. i've seen some of his Jubal guitars and they are really nice. I know he used to work at Gibson (at least) back in the day. He's a great guy and has done some adjustments on my guitars before.

OUTBOARD PREAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Promise!! No holes in this one. Thats why I'm doing the outboard piezo. They do offer a bridge with piezo already in it with the same jack system. And yeah, my folk music pedal board is set up for two instruments with a DI/PreAmp OUT to the PA. Just to clarify on the Taylor, it has the end pin pre-drilled for a jack. Pretty sweet deal. So adding an internal pickup system is pretty easy. And no drilling on that baby, either. BTW, I have a Taylor XXX. Awesome acoustic, and it's going to stay that way! Not to hi-jack my own thread, but this is my Taylor.

schundog Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Congratulations, Kenny, that is VERY cool looking. I wouldn't know the first thing about playing one, but I can sure appreciate it's looks, and glad it found a home with an active musician that plays out a lot. Ditto on the Taylor, I've never seen one like that!

Patrick Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Kenny . . . . you know my respect and admiration for Aaron. If you're gonna make any alterations to that beautiful mando . . . . you should probably leave it in the hands of the guy who more that likely made it.

Patrick, you may have noticed I mentioned you and Aaron early on in my review of the mandolin. It's also why I've chosen the Schatten M-05 for amplification - No Mods to the bod! I know I keep harping on that system, but they get some of the best reviews out there for amplifying acoustic instruments. Plus, they're really nice guys and quite responsive. I've had several really nice emails with their tech dept. IF something happens that needs the maker's attention I most certainly will be in contact with Aaron. I may even name drop - I'm not above that.
smurph1 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Man!! That thing is gorgeous!! glad you got it..I tried to learn mandolin years back..My fingers are too freakin long..Enjoy!!

Steiner Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 With a name like Schatten, it's GOT to be good! I look forward to your ears' take on the unit. Enjoy the only Heritage mandy I know of out there. Oh - nice acoustic too!
