HELP, what was the consensus of a locking strap for the combo input jack/strap button?

Guys, still loving the Eagle, but the input jack & the strap button are the same on the tailpiece (instead of the input jack on the rim and a strap button on the tailpiece itself).

What was the consensus of how to use a straplock or securing the strap on the input jack/strap button on this configuration?

I know I can use a straplock on the upper back of the guitar, but wasn't there some new products or techniques to secure the strap at the input jack/strap button?

Thanks guys, I need to get this issue sorted out before I need to stand to play.

You might like to check out Lock It straps ... http://www.lockitstraps.com/

I have a couple of them on the way, a standard and a reverse ( for 535 style neck button placement)

They are available from here ... about half way down the page

+1 on the Lock It Straps. They are a lot stronger than they look too. I have 5 of them for different guitars, but they are all pretty boring black material straps. I do need 2 reverse Lock It Straps. I'm going to visit the web site to see if they have any better styles available.

The answer I gleaned fro this site and have gone forward with is to use one of the three fasteners that holds down the tailpiece. It offsets the straplock far enough from the input to keep both functional.

IMHO I don't think you really need worry about a straplock if you have a combined input-socket/strapbutton. As long as you have the jack lead plugged the guitar will be secure as the worst that can happen is that the strap end may slip off the strap button but will be retained by the body of the jackplug.

OK admitedly if you play it acoustically using the strap you don't have any security. I suppose in that case you could plug in a component jackplug (no wires connected) for security.

My 2c anyway.

I took my old H-550 to the factory and had them install a rim jack in the conventional location as well as a strap button on the upper bout near the neck. It hung just like a big H-150. I used Schaller straplocks like I do with all my guitars and no tone was harmed.

I'm using the lockit straps (thankyou, Patrick) for 2 guitars and they work great.

Planet Waves has some nice locking straps that will attach to almost anything... except for the HUGE strap buttons on the Ibanez RG prestige models. I've never seen strap buttons that big before.

I buy a .10c washer from the hardware store & stick it over the strap, but under the knob

strong, cheap, and will never fall off

I permanently secure a 3" wide nylon strap to each gtr...$10 each: light, and very comfortable as well. plus they fold right up inside the case

those other things look too flimsy & finicky to me

Let us know how you liked the do-dad you ordered from Elderly. I've got one coming also.

Got my Strapkeeper today. It costs about $10 shipped and works very well on the end hole.

I'd like to say that it doesn't look as goofy as putting an eccentric strap button next to the jack, but it does look a little odd. It's sturdy and not too obvious.

I don't know. I got my after I installed the strap lock button on the screw for the end piece bridge (like the pic shows) and I thought the StrapKeeper looked a little cheaply made. Definitely no heavy duty like a strap lock. I don't know if I would risk a $4.5K archtop to that system. I am going to use it with my acoustic guitars.

The weak spot of this straplock is still about 1/2" of leather. I put this on a very light guitar and will be sure to watch for its wear.

My strap tail is probably only a little bit more rugged in that the leather is a bit thicker.

I never let go of my guitars when I use them anyway. I see others dangle their guitars by their straps while they have both hands on a mike. That makes me shudder.

I don't think the extra strap button looks goofy at all - you don't even really notice it unless you are looking at it directly and without the strap attached.

I got lock it Hemp strap for my birthday a few years ago. It has a super cool blue vintage design and the strap locks really work on any guitar. I have been VERY happy with it. Jim and Alicia turned me on to them! FYI though, the Hemp straps can be itchy but the patterns are awesome.

Thanks J&A
