H-535 purchase consult

Hello folks. New to your forum, and with a purpose.

I stumbled across a guitar that has given me a few sleepless nights while I consider whether or not to take the plunge. I was hoping that the knowledgeable folks here could give an opinion, or simply share info, allowing me to make as informed a choice as possible. I have never owned a Heritage, but have played this one, and done the reading, and would love to change that.

These are iPhone pics of a 2002 H-535 available in a shop nearbye. On another forum, a Heritage owner (also a member here)suggested the guitar may have had some mods done to it. Do you agree? Does it hurt the value?

Thanks for looking, and in advance for any feedback.

Cheers!

Welcome aboard. That one is a beauty. If you've played it and like it I'd go for it. Heritage builds a nice guitar.

Nice 535. Pickups may have been changed... or may have been ordered with those pickups in it. Othere than that, don't see anything that's been modified (Heritage often used that bridge style, same as on my '02 535 as well).

Welcome to the HOC :) Looks pretty stock except for the pickups and perhaps the switch tip. The tailpiece/bridge hardware can be TonePros or Schaller. These are probably TonePros (could be Gotoh or other another after-market brand though). Standard pickups can be Schaller or Seymour Duncan but these are obviously not Schaller.

Heritage is a custom shop that will incorporate your specifications to a basic design, so there is no hard and fast rule for what constitutes any particular model absolutely.

I've got an Antique Sunburst (ASB on the label in your pictures) H-535 too. It's a beautiful, resonant guitar and I'd have no hesitation buying the one you're looking at.

They are Duncans, although the model is unknown at this point. Thanks for pointing that out regarding the finish. I'd seen the Almond callout elsewhere, but perusing the gallery, I clearly see the difference. Love this finish.

That does look to be a pretty nice specimen. How are you doing on price?

It appears it can be had for 1200. I'm working through some ideas, considering what gear of mine may be expendable, etc. I own a MIJ HB-35, which I play regularly, LOVE the neck on, etc, and every 335 I've ever played has left me VERY proud of my own guitar. That isn't the case with this guitar. This was in a different class entirely, comfort, tone (brought my own amp so I could better compare this aspect) AND looks, of course. Unsettling is the best word I can come up with. It'd be a stretch for me right now, but I'm motivated.

Thanks for the feedback, gents. Really appreciated. I'll keep you posted.

I can't speak to the pickups other than they're obviously Duncans, but man it has some beautifully figured wood!

Wow! What a nice looking piece. Hope you can swing the deal. $1200 seems very reasonable if it's in excellent shape. HSC, too?

That is a great looking 535.

The price is very good, surprisingly so for a dealer.

And you've tried it out and bonded with it.

I would think that you've found your guitar.
