MartyGrass Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Maybe this will be the last time I post on this topic. Maybe not. No one else seems to have half finished f holes except me. So I'm showing pics of my recently acquired H535 and H530 f holes. Both of these are new guitars (2010). Please keep in mind that I don't care about the condition of the f holes EXCEPT almost no one knows what I'm talking about. This can't be that rare. I have seen it too many times. I know if I asked Heritage to make them better, they would do it. They have offered in the past and I declined. If I thought it was a problem, I wouldn't have bought the guitars or I would have taken care of it. Anyway, this gives me a chance to show pics. Yeah!

Yeah! dude enough with the thoughts about your f hole's here look at my f-holes
bolero Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I always thought that was the norm, do other mffs actually finish the inside edges of those?
DetroitBlues Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 If you look on the stock photos you can download from Heritage's website, you'll notice most of the unbound f holes have that "unfinished" look.
Tim Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I have unfinished f holes on my H575. They are finished on my H550. Not sure about my Millie (I'll have to look the next time I pull her out which shouldn't be too long). I still love 'em though (and it wouldn't stop me from buying another Heritage although my pocketbook would). Interesting to note though, that my ES 135 f holes are both finished AND bound.
donnie Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I'm pretty sure the inside edges of the F holes on my new 25th Ann H535 are a little edgy and unfinished looking too, but I'm away for a few days and will check when I return. And mine's red too. But I think I just figured that was how Heritage rolled.
zguitar71 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 My `81 Gibson es 347 has the color of the top on the edges of the F-holes but they are very rough. I have not seen many guitars that did not have the stain on the top transfered to the edges of the F-holes too. My Super Eagle is bound so they are nice and my 1938 Kalamazoo KG-31 are unbound stained and finished. I think any F-hole should be, at the least, sanded and stained the color of the top or black if they are not bouned. They should have a little nitro sprayed on there too imo.

What I don't quite understand Mark, is why a final inspector would not notice that. If I was an inspector I would be running my fingers around the F holes of every guitar to make sure they were smooth and finished before sending it to the outgoing shipment room. This is certainly not a knock on Heritage, but it is puzzling. I just checked my 535 and they are finished and fairly smooth, could be a little smoother but I don't normally have my fingers in there.
MartyGrass Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 My G&L Comanche is the same way. As my dad would say, if you don't like the looks of something, stop looking.
tbonesullivan Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 that's how mine are. that seems to be the way they are when not bound.
smurph1 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 One old Hillbilly's opinion here, but I've been too busy enjoying the tone of my 535 to worry about the F-holes..Never really looked at em to tell the truth..I just crank it and smile..
tbonesullivan Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I honestly never gave them much thought. I don't see how they could easily spray/buff/polish/etc the sides of the F-holes. My guitar looks and plays great, so I'm not complainin.
MartyGrass Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 I don't think they can finish the f holes without spending more time on the guitar. Personally, I wouldn't want them to raise their charges to cover that detail.
tbonesullivan Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 another issue would be how to finish them without getting the finish all over the inside of the guitar. I definitely don't want it gooping up in there and deadening the sound.
MartyGrass Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 It can be done. Don't ask me how though. I have had some guitars where that happened.
