Lindy Fralin Pure PAFs in my H555

I just replaced the Scahllers in my 1995 H555 with Lindy Fralin Pure PAFs. What an incredible improvement in tone which has made my guitar come alive. These pups are warm, clean and very articulate when playing chords. I was particularly impressed with the neck pick up which is crystal clear, unlike the muddy Schaller. The bridge is very full and not overly trebly. I researched for a few months and also considered Classic 57,2 Duncan '59's, Seth Lovers. After talking with Lindy Fralin, himself, over the phone discussing what I was after, I decided to go with the Fralins. I know pick up changes can be a "crap shoot" and get expensive, but I got lucky and am very happy with my ultimate choice.

I thought I pass on my experience because I mostly read about Seth Lovers, Duncan'59's, HRW etc. as choices for the H535 and H555.

Fralins are fantastic pickups

he's been around a while & I think all the latest "flavour of the month" pups are all the buzz now, because they are new, and you don't hear as much about Fralin in the honeymoon posts ( ie: wow, I just bought this, and it's the BEST EVER!! ) at TGP for example

but his strat, tele, P90, and humbuckers are all top notch

in fact, one of the the best sounding guitars I have ever played ( a '62 ES355 ) had a set of Fralin's in it

I always disliked the schaller HB sound; throbak, fralin, wolfetone, and seths are much better for my tastes

From what I've heard, Fralins are no brainers. Great pup's for sure. I'm thinking of replacing my '85 H140 schaller for something different. I really like gibson BB pro's.

Amazing how personal tastes can differ. I have a 1998 H535 with Schaller Golden 50s and I love the tone. Wouldn't change them for the world. Same with my 1994 Golden Eagle. Single neck mounted Schaller Golden 50s pup. Love it!!

I have Fralin Vintage Winds in one of my 61' Fender Strat clones. Closest thing to my '69 Strat I've ever heard. They're great.

Patrick,

You have Schallers Golden 50s. I believe Heritage did not use Golden 50s in the early to mid '90s. I also heard good things about the Golden 50's which I do not believe I had in mt guitar.

I also put Fralin Vintage stock in my Tele about a year ago and they are fantastic which is why I had confidence to try them out in my Heritage.

I thought the Schaller humbuckers in my 555 were awful, I couldn't wait to get rid of them, best thing I ever did!

Well . . . now you've got me wondering. I can check the bottom of the pup in my Golden eagle with a mirror. I'm gonna take a look see. But, I'd have to pull the pups on my '98 535. That ain't gonna happen! I'm definitely not the "hands on" kind of guy. Hell . . I don't even hit nails straight in the wood. I remember Clint Eastwood in "Magnum Force" mumbling to Hal Holbrook as Hal's character's car pulled away . . . and just before it blew up . . "A man's got to know his limitations".

Next time I bring it up to Ronaldo for a string change, I'll let him yank one out so we could look at the bottom.

Joey . . I think you're correct about the '94 Golden Eagle. The underside of the pup says Schaller, made in Germany . . . but, no markings about Golden 50s. But, no disappointment here. It has a warm, round, full jazz tone with good balance on highs, mids and lows.
