crazydog Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I'm looking to buy a 170 CMSM (with Seymour Duncan HB's) that has a serial number beginning with "E". According to the Blue Book, the H170CM SM were not built until 1994; Is this correct? Can anyone verify when the first model year? How can I verify that it is a CMSM versus a CM; just by the pups? Number of knobs? Any info is always appreciated! Thx.
MartyGrass Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 What does the SM mean? You're a man (or woman) who knows exactly what he wants.
drfie Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 What does the SM mean? You're a man (or woman) who knows exactly what he wants. Stag Mags. They are menacing looking humbuckers that were meant to be tapped so you get true SC sounds. I've never played a 170 CM SM, but I strongly urge OP to try them out before buying. They are a different breed of cat. Jay Wolfe raved about them but I didn't really like them as a true SC. my 2 cents. dan
crazydog Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 BTW - Blue Book says H170 CM was made 1996-2004; H170CM SM was made 1998-2004. Both of these dates seems wrong; I thought the model was made in the late 80's. According to the "E" serial number, should've been made in 1988, right?
