yoslate Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I'm bringing this forward from the Baywatch thread. And I probably shouldn't put the cart before the horse, but.... Been pursuing a minty '98 ASB 535 in Winston Salem, just up the road, where I grew up. Human Being had posted a Craigslist piece I already knew about. Had hoped to trade, but I may have to drop cash and hope my Vibrolux sells on consignment to plug the hole in the savings account. Wanted to thank schundog, H and NoName, enablers that they are, for egging me on. I would like to say that I think this will complete the stable, but everyone knows how that goes. This is the fifth last guitar I'll ever buy.... I'll audition it tomorrow, at 11:00. Hope it's a nice one. And, my wife is The Note! I'll file a report tomorrow....
FredZepp Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I can see you with a 535... for sure , Rob. Man, that would fit you. And the ASB is a great vintage finish... In any case, I hope that you find that this one speaks to you.
High Flying Bird Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 And, my wife is The Note! I'll file a report tomorrow.... She may be filing some papers herself tomorrow...... A 535 is a fantastic guitar. I hope it is in good shape and it fits your hands.
Kuz Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Rob, when you played mine a couple years ago, you said how you wished you had a semi. I can just see one problem here.... The Grail might not get anymore air time!!!! Good luck and it better be a good fiddle if you are offering up the Vibrolux!!!!
H Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Rob, you deserve that guitar! As soon as I held this one, I knew I deserved it!
fxdx99 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Good luck, Rob. Hope that semi is 'the Note' as well.
yoslate Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 Thanks, fellas! It is done! Phenomenal player! Sounds better than it plays...no kiddin' Can't wait to find out what p'ups are in this thing! Looks like Howard's, above, with a wider, slightly darker color around the edge of the body. Still has the Schaller bridge and tailpiece; those'll go. Guy I got it from bought it from a high-end collector in Charlotte. I test drove it through a '66 Super Reverb, and it absolutely sang!!! More later, after I get some time to re-string it and pull the p'ups. And John, The Grail will not take a back seat to this; The Grail rules!

yoslate Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 No, sorry DB. I'm notoriously bad about that.... I'll see if Alex'll shoot it tomorrow.
fxdx99 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Woo Hoo! Atta-boy, Rob. Congratulations on an excellent find. Yeh, a good semi in your hands - oooooh, yup, all's right with the world.
schundog Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Congratulations! Can't wait to hear you tear it up at PSP. 535s are the shiznit. Oh, and for pics, yeah, sure, that would be great, but I'd rather hear some clips!
Kuz Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Rob, GREAT NEWS!!! A player of your caliber has been delinquent too long in not having a Semi (535) in the stable!!!! Congrats again!!!!!!!
H Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Rob, I am SO pleased for you A lot of hard work went into getting that guitar and now it has paid dividends. I can almost hear the joy in your words. Time to play it and play it some more...
Hfan Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Congrats yoslate. Sounds like you did well. Spring is definitely in the air, another NGD. Enjoy the honeymoon.
Steiner Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 A well though out and tempered purchase, I'm sure. Congratulations!
Gitfiddler Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Well done, Rob! 535's are the one tool that must be in every Heritage player's tool box. Can't wait to see it. Play it in good health. Tim
LK155 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Good pursuit (and capture), Rob. Looking forward to hearing you play it! Lyle P.S. Sent you a PM re: your Vibrolux...hope you saw it
